Is "Decent Days and Nights" by the Futureheads the most disgusting song ever?

I'm sure its not, but its very horrible. The Proclaimers doing Franz.

Urgh, and Kings of Leon - another silly voice. (whats a fav-orgh?)

I think Franz doing Franz is horrible enough, thank you.

A Proclaimers album of Franz covers would be a marvellous thing!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

It's not their finest hour (I'd say "Carnival Kids" trumps it), but it's a fine tune. Shun not the Northern Burr, hater!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

You are so, so wrong. Decent Days & Nights is maybe the finest single by a British band in the last 5 years. And Carnival Kids is even better.

Nathan Woolls (regularfries), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

It is a bit ugly, and I've very much liked some of their other singles.

Decent Days & Nights 'First Day' is maybe the finest single by a British band in the last 5 years. Perhaps. It's grrreat at least.

lurkin', Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

This is one of my favorite tunes from their album.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Then i'm guessing i wouldnt like the album either.

dmun, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

Awesome song. My fav is "Man Ray" though.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

i like it, it's so 'Jammy'. but the 'if you know the clues...' bit seems a bit laboured.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Which part of that bit seems laboured: the lyrics or the music?

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

lyric. for some reason it grates - the obviouness of the statement doesn't live up to the bluster with which it's delivered perhaps. i had a similar problem with 'Take Me Out', but in that case it was a big stupid chorus so is all forgivable really.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Futureheads >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Franz

cdwill, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the "clues" lyrics are pretty stupid, but then again so are almost all lyrics ever. i sing along to it anyways. the song is without a doubt great. in fact, pretty much all the songs by the Futureheads mentioned on this thread are great.

lemin (lemin), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

i wanted to hate them so much. but they rock. and i love 'em. this is a fine song. more north-east accents in rock.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

this is one my favorite songs of the past year. it just makes me happy.

Futureheads >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Franz

...aaaaaaaaaand your point is.....?

Nathan Woolls (regularfries), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

gg allin to thread.

It's just simply true.

cdwill, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the "clues" lyrics are pretty stupid

Agreed. The song itself is a blast though.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Great song which I will listen to RIGHT NOW.

I have mentioned in the past the crap lyrics on this album. Their banality is starting to sorta grow on me, actually, but there's something else ... they don't scan, or something.

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

I like it how their singer sounds like he's a little stuffed up, in the nose. Like he's got some sinus problems. Many of my favorite rock singers are afflicted with snot problems, it seems. Maybe that's the clue!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

if the Futureheads have released a single that didn't mug me in broad daylight and leave me penniless and bleeding with its greatness then I haven't heard it, and I've heard 'em all. 'Decent Days and Nights' third to 'Carnival Kids' and 'First Day' (original Andy Gill-produced versions by preference, naturally).

Lee F# (fsharp), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

First Day > Carnival Kids > Decent Days and Nights. They're all good. But First Day's prominent position may be due to the fact that I got the album the same day I started a new job

WillSommer, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

It's a cute song but I think it should've been half as long

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Horrid title. "Decent" = Meh.

Ben Dot (1977), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

The Proclaimers doing Franz.

But this is a GREAT IDEA probably the best idea EVER. The mere thought of The Futureheads covering "500 Miles" fills me with a deep deeeeep joy.

elwisty (elwisty), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

not as great as the idea of The Proclaimers doing 'Take Me Out'
