Because, what the hell, why not pursue these diminishing returns all the way down the rabbit hole? And because I dig this one:

That Art Ensemble cover was almost definitely taken in Europe.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Unless you can play the Loterie Nazioneli in Chicago.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, you must be right. Couldn't find a scan of the back cover of Phase One.

Hit the deck boys, it's the Dave Matthews tourbus!

brianiac (briania), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Weird: I was going to post the Chicago (Transit Authority) album with the CTA map on the cover, and joke that it was an aerial view, but now it appears that the official cover of that album is a plain typographical design, matching the numbered series, and and ... so what pressing was I always seeing around Chicago that had the L map on it? I have a concrete memory of selling it to someone at the Evanston Reckless and pointing to Evanston on the cover and explaining that if he got lost on the way home he could just consult his record.

OMG Oprah's apartment building spells "Chicago" from the top!!!

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Is that the Rainbo (in the Minus 5 cover)?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

It sure looks like the Rainbo. Though there are probably like 500 buildings in Chicago that look like that.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

It's Soma Studios (right next to Rainbo), where that album was recorded.

Haha, Willem, you're the guy that posted the comment in my Stypod entry on Green, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I knew Chicago was rough, but album covers? Brutal. Must be an ammunition surplus.

(oh, you didn't answer my question :-))

willem (willem), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I'd be very surprised if Green released anything new, but who knows, I think Eau de Vie was a surprise to some people. I haven't seen Jeff in about a year, but I do know he's been working on and off on solo stuff -- whether he plans to actually record it is another question.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

...
I never knew they released anything as recent as Eau de Vie (or even 5. thanks google)... Looking forward to catching up on them (even though Pop Tarts was quite a dissapointment).

that Robert Nighthawk album at the top of the thread is one of my favorite records of all-time. the Homesick James album fuckin rules too. Briania has great taste. But we knew that.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

Hey, back atcha! Actually, this whole thread has brought this little item down off the shelf: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00004YN9X.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
