donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

What does it mean for restoring America's international relations if the subject of George W. Bush's blatant rockism enters the international discourse?

Mickey (modestmickey), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

He digs Vashti Bunyan, Shirley Collins, The Boredoms and Sun City Girls just like the rest of you

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Both George W. Bush and Sun City Girls have embraced Saddam Hussein at one point. (Granted, it was an animatronic Saddam in the latter's case.)

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Well there ya go

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Probably less of a rockist than Kerry.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Is there a spelling error in the thread title? Bush wants to put weapons in space, so doesn't that make him a rocketist?

fuck, I need to get offline

Laura Bush is a huge Ben Stiller fan.

And George would prob. like Stillwater....er...

Frogman Henry, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Rockism is a lot like "freedom" and "democracy". We will spread it to those people of the world who have long been oppressed by a lack or rock. And we shall prevail.

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

George Jones ain't rockist.

PopSarah (PopSarah), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

There's nothing rockist about the music itself, it's the reasoning.

dan. (dan.), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

I don't know: privileging an old country artist seems pretty rockist to me. (xpost)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

George Bush: "I am Iraquist."

Masked Gazza, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

He hasn't even evolved to the level of rockist yet. Rockist thought makes some faulty assumptions about authorship and authenticity but at it's core is based on logic, reason and history: all concepts that elude GWB completely.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Also, why does the vast left wing dominated media conspiracy, such as Pitchforkmedia.com, refuse to address the issue of John Kerry's rockism? Is this not overwhelming evidence of the vast liberal conspiracy?

Mickey (modestmickey), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

I imagine if this had somehow been an issue in the campaign, both would have professed to have been rockists but even though Kerry was probably more of one, having played bass in that terrible 60's surf band and all, the public would have believed the "real" rockist was Bush.

He's not a rockist, but he was a rock smoker.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

George Bush: "I am Iraquist."

-- Masked Gazza (m...), April 12th, 2005.

if only Bush could pronounce Iraq correctly, this joke would make more sense
