A three-sided album is a double album where side 4 is as blank as my mind on a Sunday morning.

Wasn't there an early Graham Parker album like that, too -- The Parkerilla or something, with a 12-inch single of Don't Ask Me Questions on side 4?
Funkadelic One Nation Under a Groove came with a 7-inch inside that was CALLED Side C, but I don't know if that counts, either.
Also, I have an M "Pop Muzik" single which is a 3-sided single -- on one side, there are two different concentric grooves, so depending on where you put the needle down, it plays either Pop Muzik or M Factor.

Matching Tie and Handkerchief. I have another album that has parallel grooves so you get something different depending on where you drop the needle. I can't remember what it is though.

The fourth side consisted of studio recordings, released as the 3X3 EP. Btw. the US edition of the album was in fact four sides of live material.

I was still a pretty big Extreme fan when that came out (granted I was maybe 12). I think it had "Get The Funk Out" on it which was an alright jam.

I wish more labels would consider doing these instead of spreading 52 minutes of music across four sides.

I think it's more a mastering/sound quality concern than any label's conscious artistic decision but i could be wrong.

I think it's more a mastering/sound quality concern than any label's conscious artistic decision but i could be wrong
yeah but there isn't going to be any noticeable difference in sound quality between a side of music lasting 13 mins and one lasting 17 mins.
a couple of examples I can think of:
Coil, Musick to Play in the Dark vol. 2 – has a v. nice etching on side 4Death in June, Something is Coming
also I'm pretty sure I have a Nurse With Wound LP like this w/etching on side 4 but I can't remember which one
