I just saw a really great French documentry about Boubacar Traoré, a singer and guitarist from Mali. Quite an interesting story and the music was very good too. I'd never heard of him before...there's not much about him on ILM and I was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with his music.

I've heard some amazing tunes by Boubacar on the Desert Blues compilations. Check them out for a general overview of music from North African / Sahara countries.

His new album is Kongo Magni. Beautiful stuff: sparse, rolling, atmospheric desert blues. Draw a line from Tinariwen to Ali Farka Toure, and he's on it somewhere.
