Accoustic versions of dance songs

Listening to gorgeous "Romeo (Accoustic Version)" on the disc2 of Basement Jaxx' "The Singles", I tried to remember any other accoustic version of well known dance/techno song. The only one I could recall was accoustic version of "One More Time" by Daft Punk, which can be found on Daft Club. Any other candidates for this category?

there's an acoustic version of 'Stars'??

Moby did one of 'Go' on MTV once. and there's an acoustic version of 'Romeo' on the Basement Jaxx 2-disc singles comp.

Daft Punk's "Too Long" by Gonzales
Max Tundra's Elliot Smith-esque "Tell It To My Heart"
Travis's "Baby One More Time"

"Days Go By" by Dirty Vegas (there's an acoustic version)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Does it have to be by the the same artists?

I mean, are we gonna mention "Say Hello, wave goodbye" by David Gray? (aaargh!)

Maybe Jeremy Diller's classic Acid Brass album rules this thread.

I'd love to hear that Knife cover.

xpost- man, why so many people mentioning doubles? ;)

Jonathan Richman used to sneak a bar or two of "Night Fever" into "Give Paris a Second Chance"

"Romeo" - Basement Jaxx
"Days Go By" - Dirty Vegas

The Ghost of Beat That Dead Horse (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

(I would pay money to hear an acoustic version of "Mentasm".)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

there is an acoustic version of "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode on the single.

Kasabian did a version of the Prodigy's "Out of Space". I forget if it was strictly speaking acoustic, though. I may have blanked it out.

I saw BeeGees perform Staying Alive as part of an acoustic TV concert a while back.

Øystein (Øystein), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

The only good version of 'Heartbeats' is Rex The Dog's.

Prince does tend to acoustic up some of his dancier songs, though only 'I Could Nver Take The Place Of Your Man' comes to mind.

Plus-Tech Whiz Kid (Disco) (Barima), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Energy Flash!

Wouldn't an accoustic "Energy Flash" just be the same chord over and over again?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I really like the acoustic version of ‘My Heartbeat’ made by an ILM poster.

wordyrappington (wordyrappington), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

John Eddie did an accoustic cover of The Cure's "Inbetween Days", if that counts as a dance song.

Seb (Seb), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

"Personal Jesus" - Johnny Cash

Yngwie AlmsteenMay (sgertz), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Afterlife's 'downtempo' remixes don't really qualify as acoustic, but often have the same net effect. See KOT's "Finally", etc

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

The "Heartbeats" cover by Jose Gonzalez is in no way terrible. Just quite different.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

not strictly a dance track but Picturehouse's cover of "sweet drams my LA ex" is superb.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

mountain goats "the sign"

ergo phizmiz re-did a bunch of aphex twin material on primarily acoustic instruments.

j fail (cenotaph), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I have a superb all vocal version of Autechre's "Gnit" by Autechre/David Byrne and Marie Daulne which sort of fits the bill here too.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

There is a guitars/drums/bass version (electric, not acoustic though...) if 'knights of the jaguar' out there somewhere.

tylero (tylero), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

i have a string quartet recording of "knights..." too, i forgot about that. it's by A Hundred Birds.

six months pass...
revive for two reasons: 1. the Jose Gonzalez "Heartbeats" is being used on a really gorgeous TV ad at the moment and 2. what i've heard of this is really very good. the Felix "Don't you want me" (which i have an .mp3 of) works incredibly well and the snippets on the site make this sound like a must buy.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 10 November 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

and just for Stevem... a piano version of Anasthasia by T99.

:)
