Horse Rotorvator by COIL. I was explaining to my wife a sort've laughable instance that happened to me at the office last night. It was quite late (vampire shift) and I'd assumed that I was one of the few people left on the floor, and as such I usually turn the volume down on the news and turn on some music. As fate would have it, I through on Horse Rotorvator (a damn odd choice, yes I know, but for some reason, I seem to like to play disturbing music late at night when at the office as some deranged way of keeping myself awake/alert....and suitably freaked out). In any case, the malevolent, booming strains of "THE ANAL STAIRCASE" come blasting out of my computer. Just as the late, great John Balance comes to the chorus, in walks one of our copy editors....his face swiftly sporting an alarmed expression. In order to better illustrate this story, I played her the track in question (not a big Coil fan, she). After a brief airring, she says: "no wonder they don't promote you."

I put on Unfinished Business just after I got up because I wanted to listen to the end of "Big Chips" where Kells says "Either I'm high, or I think I just saw a dolphin," then asks Jay-Z what he's drinkin', even though it's clear he's not in the studio (or the beach or whatever. I just thought it would be nice to start my day off with a laugh.

The first whole album I listened to today, though, was Haughty Melodic by Mike Doughty.
