well ?

heard it on the way to work this morning and thought .. hmm yes.

more beat heavy in parts than Rounds.

now checking on the earplugs @ work .. and 'smile around the face' is totally gorgeous. there is a section at the end where suddenly the stereo effect just morphs and mutates and the track lifts off.

so .. anyone else feeling this ?

i've actually really enjoyed this album. it's much better than rounds, but still doesn't top pause as my fave.

stelfox, Friday, 15 April 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

agreed.

its got more funk and colour than rounds from the first few listens.

not heard pause yet .. so cant compare.

I thought it was pretty fucking dull.

oops, there's rather less on that thread than i'd remembered. never mind.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 April 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

it actually has gotten better with each listen.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 15 April 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

i just gave this a first listen and it actually reminds me most of 'dialogue,' but more filled out.

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 21 April 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

it actually has gotten better with each listen.

the leglo (the leglo), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

is this album different than anything else he's done (as four tet), which all sounds the same to me?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

i think this is the first thing of his i've really enjoyed since the "glasshead" single

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...

Okay, so it's been a month or two, and this record is sliding. I'm thinking about it less, playing it less. Why am I not feeling it? Am I missing something or is it weaker than the others?

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 22 May 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

is it weaker than the others

YES.

Sean M (Sean M), Sunday, 22 May 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

agreed, definitely weaker

jmeister (jmeister), Sunday, 22 May 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

Love the sleeve photos, love the disc. Sounds like a step forward vs. a step back. Good balance of rhythm and shimmery stuff.
