family bands

Which bands have members from the same family? I guess usually they are brothers and sisters but there are also bands with parents and children or even grand-parents maybe? Do those bands have something in common? Most of the ones I can think of out of the top of my head have a distinctive and original, sometimes even unique sound. Are those bands more cohesive than the average band? I mean, does their personnel change less than usual?

Examples:

- The Jackson 5 (5 brothers)
- Beach Boys (three Wilson brothers)
- Cowboy Junkies with two brothers and one sister (Timmins family)
- Shaggs (the three Wiggin sisters)
- Kelly family (is that a band, actually?)
- Allman Brothers (two brothers)
- Jesus & Mary Chain (Reid brothers)
- Carpenters (brother and sister)
- Oasis (Gallagher brothers. Not a good example for originality)
- Sensational Alex Harvey Band (two McKenna brothers)

Kinks!

Huk-L, Friday, 15 April 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

actually bands with sibling partnerships are too easy. It seems pretty common to ask a brother/sister to fill in the missing position in the band.

More fun are the slightly more unusual partnerships
eg Trachtenburg Slideshow Family Players (Dad, Mum and Daughter)
Mystery Jets (features a Dad and Son pairing)

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 15 April 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Smoosh
Radiohead (Greenwood brothers)
Good Charlotte (the twins, forget their names)

The Coral (also brothers)
Doves (twins)
Sly and the Family Stone (Sly and Freddy)

The Coral (brothers)
The White Stripes (oh wait...)

I can't think of any more right now. Actually I can think of a whole load of boybands and girl groups with sibling members but I'm thinking they're not what you're looking for?

The other thing is that a lot of family bands are not the type to tour or put out a bunch of albums, they're more likely to stay in one area and play a very specific type of music like polka or bluegrass.

Roz, Friday, 15 April 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Love & Rockets: Kevin and David are brothers.
