A heads up: Dinosaur Jr. (with Lou!) is playing on the Late Late Show on CBS tonight. They'll probably be on around 1:30 AM EST.

holy fuck!

Word

buck van morrison (Buck Van Smack), Saturday, 16 April 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

yes....very good indeed

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Saturday, 16 April 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

what song was that?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 16 April 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

*sigh* I found out 15 minutes late...

billstevejim, Saturday, 16 April 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

fuck. someone must have tivo'd this?

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 16 April 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

They played "The Lung," which I found to be very surprising. They seemed to be on top of their game, but I really wish J had sang and played guitar at the same time during the verses...it was awkward to go from that aggressive soloing right into...nothing.

I honestly expected them to play "Freak Scene" or "Little Fury Things".

Michael Copeland, Saturday, 16 April 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

Are they touring?

billstevejim, Saturday, 16 April 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

i caught the end of this and was all what the fuck is that lou barlow ?

kephm, Saturday, 16 April 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

holy shit. that was fookin' killer. J still has the gold(?) jazzmaster, Lou has a rickenbacker. couldn't i.d. the drummer.

craig the host said they were on tour this summer, which means some drivin' time.

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 16 April 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

I didn't see it as I was dead tired, but that should have been Murph on drums. Only two signs of the apocalypse to go, people. Pack your bags...

hector savage, Saturday, 16 April 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

Mind you, the site is explicit with this tidbit:
"Here are the dates announced so far..."

Hopefully the west coast gets the tour as well in august.

buck van morrison (Buck Van Smack), Saturday, 16 April 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

so is lou back for the tour or what?

kephm, Saturday, 16 April 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Yes, as well as Murph

buck van morrison (Buck Van Smack), Saturday, 16 April 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 16 April 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Lou always said that back-in-the-even-more-retarded-day he wanted Dino to get big enough that he could kill J on SNL. I was kinda half-hopping he'd start bashing J over the head while shrieking that revenge is a dish best served cold.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

half-hoping

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

bear in mind that i don't have cable and this is a shitty antenna signal, but:

nice adidas tracksuit on J there...

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

he usually rocks the blue track jacket; green made the network cut, i guess.

great to see him doing his thing, though. usually i see him aroun amherst/noho looking like he's wandered too far from home.

dapes, Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I was kinda half-hopping he'd start bashing J over the head while shrieking that revenge is a dish best served cold.

all in good time. first, tour enough to paydown/off your mortgage, then take action.

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

yeah lou's got a kid to take care of now! some people are all pissy about the obvious capitalism involved here but fuck it, better these guys go out, make a little deserved loot and play really good songs on the hipster state fair circuit than make another mediocre solo album.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

"hipster state fair circuit" is an interesting way to put it.

still, like the Pixies charging $40 + s/c for the two portland shows alone, at least they better make enough loot to make themselves stable...

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 16 April 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

I may have try to catch one of these shows.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 17 April 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

i hope the summerstage one is either free or not expensive.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 17 April 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Jeezus, if those two can tour Mould-Hart may be doable by 2020.
I last saw Dinosaur (pre-Jr) at Maxwells circa '87.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

mould-hart reunion? lookie here: http://babelogue.citypages.com:8080/pscholtes/2004/10/28 (this was from a previous post)

is this dinosaur jr broadcast available online anywhere?

bg (creamolafoam), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I knew about the one-off; I meant HuDu playing a Grandpas of Indie Rock tour...

That the D.Jr Central Park show links from their site to Ticketmaster is not a good sign. (Sit at the Bethesda Fountain and listen for free.)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

As he is playing Donnington, I am going to invite J to my mum's for salmon sandwiches and some crisps.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Hi all, I'm new here, so go easy on me... I just saw them play a semi-secret show at Spaceland in Los Angeles on Friday... and I have to say, they were really, really awesome. They were super tight (which sounds weird considering the material, but I mean it as a compliment). It was great to see Lou play loud music again (and scream his head off). They played only songs from the Lou era, which I guess is as it should be. Anyway, the live show was great, the club was packed, and the crowd ate it up.

Broadwayjerk, Monday, 18 April 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

somebody sent me a vidcap:

eleven months pass...
JayLouMurph lineup just played "Forget the Swan" on The Henry Rollins Show on IFC tonight. I practically had an indiegasm - they had Mike on bass the only time I'd seen them live, and I'd missed the earlier TV performance. Exclusive performance of another song here:

That was cool, especially Murph on drums. I never saw Dinosaur Jr. back in the day and would love to get a chance to see them.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Sunday, 25 June 2006 02:04 (nineteen years ago)

The online song is "Raisans", btw.

"The Lung" performance from last year is on Youtube now:

Henry Rollins Show's musical guest next week is Daniel Johnston!

Marmot 4-Tay: forth-coming, my child. forth-coming most righteous champion (mar, Sunday, 25 June 2006 04:09 (nineteen years ago)

I saw this Rollins Show performance tonight, by chance. They played great, but it really made me feel old somehow. I don't know if it is J.'s hair, or if it is their sound. As beautiful as the sound is to me, it just seems to belong firmly to the late 80's.

nicky lo-fi (nicky lo-fi), Sunday, 25 June 2006 06:41 (nineteen years ago)

J's gray hair is a bit shocking. It was just a strand here and there of gray last time I saw a pic of him, and Murph is bald now! Lou just looks like Lou though, maybe a touch tubbier.

The Rollins performances seemed a lot tighter to me than the Craig Ferguson one. They've really gotten back in the swing of playing together.
