Okay, so what are the writing credits on Kelly Osbourne's new single "One Word"?

...cuz if they don't include Currie, Payne and Ure, there'll be trouble.

The Osbournes go electroclash - it had to happen sooner or later.

mnm, Sunday, 17 April 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Is it the sample?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 17 April 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

So, I'm confused... is the song being regarded as a rip off of Fade to Grey, or as a half-cover that's meant to be recognized as such?
Like, are people supposed to listen to it and go "ah ha! fade to grey! cool." or were they counting on most people not knowing.

I mean, it's so close it's gotta be a reference people will pick up on, like sampling "Superfreak" where you're hearing the old song when you hear the new one right? But then why reference a song that most people won't be that familiar with?

Brandon Mitchell (A.H.), Sunday, 17 April 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

I was astounded when I saw and heard this song earlier today. the 'Fade To Grey' link will be obvious to a lot of people who will also like this song (on first listen, I like it, or maybe I just like that it's by Kelly Osbourne and seems like a pretty radical change of direction).

But then why reference a song that most people won't be that familiar with?

I think it's a win-win situation because there are those of us who will appreciate the 'tribute' and not care about the 'authenticity' issue. Others who might not place the reference so easily will either love it or loathe it based on how they already felt about Kelly. i doubt it will be as big a hit as 'Shut Up' but I much prefer this to that. Who produced it? Toyed with the idea of it being Fischerspooner...

other funny thing: easily imagined Victoria Beckham or Gwen Stefani singing this.

$V£N! (blueski), Sunday, 17 April 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

produced and co-written by Linda Perry.

I shit you not.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 17 April 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

i like linda perry. she's righted her wrongs as far as i'm concerned.

Volker Schlöndorff (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 17 April 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

If I don't like Sleeping In The Nothing (the Kelly full-length out in June!) I'll think she's added her biggest wrong yet, but I'm excited to hear it.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 17 April 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure Linda Perry did the whole album. And I'm with JBR -- I think Perry is pretty effin' great.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 17 April 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

As I suspected, the video is very ALPHAVILLE:

mnm, Monday, 18 April 2005 07:11 (twenty years ago)

9/10ths of the album has leaked as a torrent. The album closer "Entropy" seems to be missing. However, what I've heard is good enough to make me pretend Shup Up never existed.

And also, WTF

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 07:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh, hang on. "Don't Touch Me When I'm Sleeping" is pretty embarrassing.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

Shut Up was terrific!

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

I didn't like it. It's a bit scary how she seems to have gone and made exactly the type of record I said she should make two years ago though.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

If this album is good enough to make me imagine Shut Up! never existed it would have to be the best album I've ever heard and grant me the power of flight.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Okay, maybe not that good.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

WTF?

did the guy who suggested this just come out a coma??

Even Holly Valance went electroclash in 2004.

are american pop writers really that behind the times?

2002 - Hip hop goes extasy....

2005 - kelly osbourne goes electroclash....

2006 - RHCP's baggy album??

that pictures a mindfuck though....

Danny boy, Thursday, 28 April 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

Holly went electroclash in 03, suckaz. And "State of Mind" was flimsy and cheap and minimalist but endlessly endearing, esp "Roll Over" and "State of Mind".

"One Word" is a lot tougher and denser, it should be quite big, actually. I'm looking forward to hearing the album. "Shut Up" the album didn't do much for me, but "Shut Up" (the song) was brilliant.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 28 April 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

shut up the album was at least 50% great. whilst i thoroughly dislike that promo shot i'm looking forward to this newie.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 April 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

I think the closest sonic relative to "One Word" is actually "Erinner Dich" by Klee. Linda Perry's clearly had her ear to the ground as far as Europop goes (the proof is in her work on Gwen Stefani album), so it's not impossible.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

that promo shot! phwoar.

Any explanation for Kelly's apparent - and sudden - weight loss? Or is this just Photoshop at work?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 2 May 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Um, puberty & the growing-up thing?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 2 May 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Um, I would think she's firmly post-pubescent by now.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 2 May 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

I thought she was 16 when she recorded the 1st album!

yeah that's a pretty stunning weight loss...let's hope it was diet and exercise. :/

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

Some of the apparent weight loss might be the cut of her dress and the way she's posed -- both are pretty concealy.

Or it might just be drusg and starvation.

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

what are the writing credits on Kelly Osbourne's new single "One Word"?

Composed by Linda Perry. Published by Stuck In The Throat / Famous Music Corp (ASCAP)

JoB (JoB), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

drusg!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

this single is pretty great

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

According to kelly on Jonathan Ross last night the pictures are the result of a serious corset, not airbrushing. Yeah, right.

alext (alext), Sunday, 15 May 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, they corseted her face. Uh-huh, that'll be right.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 15 May 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

I noticed Jonathon Ross accused her of "skinnying up" and didn't actually mention airbrushing/photoshopping. Kelly then corrected him and said she had worn a corset and there had been no airbrushing. No one mentioned airbrushing before she did, and "skinnying up" could just as easily have described wearing a corset. I think she gave herself away there.

lupine lupin (lupinelupin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

Kelly Osbourne really does need to find an accent and stick with it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

When I first saw that cover, I was all like "Kelly, why have you put a random model on the front of your album?" Even apart from the weight loss, that picture does not look like her in the FACE.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

One Word is quite nice.
Kelly was just hosting (god help us) MTV's Ringtones Special and she looked inhuman.
Not meant as a slur there or a Calum-ism. My girl was watching with me and we both gaped. She's... sort of... off. Slurring words, bad wig, face broken out and broad and eyes wrong direction. Eek.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 May 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

She was quite worsshing slurr on that Simon prog on t4 sun morn..

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 16 May 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

"You're not even LOOKING at me, Simon!"

"I'm, er, looking at the questions. They're behind you."

"WHAT? You have the QUESTIONS? Can't you even PREPARE for this interview?"

"I have to maintain a decent social life as well, Kelly."

Or words to that effect. Anyway, classic stuff. All this AND a strategically placed white pillow, to protect her lady bits. I thought she was going to pull a Grace Jones/Russell Harty number on Amstell for a moment there...

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Saw Kelly on TOTP Saturday and yeah that's so NOT her in the photos above!
