Some new tracks in goth clubs ?

Hi, I live in Paris and everytime I find myself in a goth club late at night, it's always the same songs, live Joy, Cure, NIN, Marilyn Manson, Anne Clarck, Grauzone ... Well, it's always nice to listen to them, but is there some hot new bands in "goth" music ?

Poison(Ivy) (PoisonIvy), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

There are, but goths don't want to listen to new music. Seriously. There's no other way to explain people going to maybe three goth nights a week, every week, and always requesting "Lucretia, My Reflection."

Xii (Xii), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

And by "hot new bands," bear in mind that this means screechy guys in too much makeup with no vocal range trying to emulate Siouxsie. So I guess I can understand the preference for The Cure.

Xii (Xii), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

lol ! True. But I wish someone could recreate, or reinvent a sound and an esthetic based on the ones from these famous bands we just mentionned... but more actual maybe.

Poison(Ivy) (PoisonIvy), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

VNV Nation--who, btw, are quite terrific.

Re: VNV Nation - do we absolutely need progressive trance with completely melodramatic faux Shakespearean lyrics on top in 2005?

VNV Nation have their moments. I remember being quite taken with "Darkangel".

Post Retro

Someone's really digging for genre titles.

Xii (Xii), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Another chance to plug Micro-goth

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah Post Retro doesnt make much sense. ( i cut and paste from a club listing).

on that note, who the hell EVER REQUESTS LUCRETIA at a club? sorry about that. when i show up at a goth club, the requests make up a god 50% and they are often newer bands and quality songs.

point being, there are plenty of new tunes played. at least in my neck of the woods. use google. the posted question is a little baffling. and i am not even 'a goth'

kephm (kephm), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

newer bands and quality songs.

Being privy to the catalogs of many of those labels over the last six years, I'm going to have to say that those two are mostly mutually exclusive.

Xii (Xii), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

six years? that's it?

kephm (kephm), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Anyone who picks "Lucretia" over "This Corrosion" has a superiorty complex the size of Botswana.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

but is there some hot new bands in "goth" music ?

"hot new" and "Goth" are mutualy exclusive terms, I'd imagine.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

"This Corrosion" edited down to "Lucretia"'s length > "Lucretia My Reflection" > "This Corrosion"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 18 April 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

btw my above post with the 'use google' was not supposed to go through.

oh and goth clubs tend to play the new singles from the bread and butter goth/synth-pop bands (cure, nin, new order, depeche mode). for better or worse. but damn do the people dance funny.

kephm (kephm), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

"This Corrosion" is one of a select number of songs that should never, ever end.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Trayce may have some suggestions?

Here in Sydney it's gone flouro-goth, with a touch of medical fetish.

so anyway I got drunk & went along, & they played black strobe's "chemical sweet girl"!!! dancefloor-wise, reminded me of hardhouse/trance parties five years ago, except w/spooky atmospherics/male vox. who writes about contemporary industrial, anyway?

oh noes EBMSPAM, Saturday, 29 April 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

VNV Nation dude doesn't have a goth voice, ergo they r sux. Dude sounds like Michael Stipe.
