The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Monday, 18 April 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

I've had that thought about "Where the Streets Have No Name" before, but not about the Unforgettable Fire.

There's some bright guitar glides, but no.

*pictures Bono staring at his shoes for an entire gig*

Seriously I can see why someone would think "A Sort of Homecoming" was a bit shoegazy, at least the album version.

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

no more shoegazey than The Sound, or half the Factory roster at that..

Come on Edge, play the shoes!

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

the final kitchens of distinction EP, the one on fierce panda.

The first song on "The Unforgettable Fire," otth - "A Sort of Homecoming" - is pretty shoegazery. At least it would be if all those Eno-effects were slopped on Bono's vox as well.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

I think John is rght -- some of the music is a little shoegazy, but the vocals and the mix aren't.

kephm, Tuesday, 19 April 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

t**t, Saturday, 10 May 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

shoegaze or not: still the best U2 album

stephen, Saturday, 10 May 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

You are correct Stephen!

Incidentally I just paid $40(US) for a CD copy of the Unforgettable Fire EP simply because I couldn't believe it even existed on CD and it's one of my most treasured records ever.

Bimble, Sunday, 11 May 2008 02:38 (seventeen years ago)

is "we didn't start the fire" shoegazing?

J.D., Sunday, 11 May 2008 10:24 (seventeen years ago)

now you just need the gatefold 7" version for "sixty seconds in kingdom come" and the long version of "love comes tumbling."

there's a deluxe version of the album coming out pretty soon, those tracks will probably be on it
