Singing Bass S/D?

I totally misread the title of this thread : Singing bass players S/D as being about those plastic, singing, dancing mechanical fish that were all the rage a couple of years ago.

I thought ILM had taken it to the next level!

... er ...

I guess now we have. This is the thread for reminiscing over your favourite mechanical musical novelties.

I don't know if they ever had it, but they should have had one singing "Daddy Sang Bass."

Hahaha here I was getting all narcissistic and thinking "WOW A THREAD SPECIFICALLY STARTED FOR ME" and then I opened the thread and got PWNED by a plastic fish.

Haha, I thought this thread was going to be about sung basslines (a la doo-wop, etc.).

"Hey Mr. Bassman..."

Jordan, that's exactly what I thought, too! I was all "YAY ILM PLAYS TO MY STRENGTHS oh oops".

All of the male singers I like are bass-baritones; basses hardly register on my (admittedly limited) radar.

Contemporary ones you should search:

Thomas Quasthof
Rene Pape
John Realya
Bryn Terfel
James Maddelena (although he's really a baritone, not a b-b)

An up-and-comer you should keep an eye on:

GREEK LOVE. Or something.

Oldies question: didn't the Marcels or somebody do an answer song to "Mr. Bassman" called "Follow The Leader" in which the disheartened bass singer says "What about what I sing?"

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about bass that really sings, like when you hit that perfect high fretless note and hold it, resulting in that sweet, sweet mwaah.
