it's about time that his records finally got released outside of Sweden. I guess his other band Junip is about to release something new, but I haven't heard it yet.

more talk of the jose.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

album is pretty but i don't really think it's especially distinctive or interesting compared to others (eg gravenhurst)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

i think it's distinctive not because it's "weird" (it isn't), but because it's better than anyone else doing anything similar.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

His cover of Heartbeats by The Knife is lovely

yes

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 15 December 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

yes heartbeats is lovely (i have never heard the original) but still pretty underwhelmed by the rest. have people found it to be a grower?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

His Kylie cover is up today at my blog.

Yeah, it's a grower. Or rather, when it catches you at the right time it 'pings' you like a bell.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Thursday, 15 December 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Yes! I just recently discovered this. A friend told me it was Jose covering it in that ad. It's soooo beautiful. Makes you realize that you can't fuck up a perfect song.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 15 December 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

still love it all. that kylie cover is nice.

slow jamz and white guy indie acoustic shit (Chris V), Thursday, 15 December 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

you just ruined the thread with that

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 15 December 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

I just his cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart. I wanna tear his vocal chords out now. His Kylie and Knife covers are great though. But dear oh dear why the Joy Division cover?

He put on a great show in San Francisco at the Swedish-American Hall (yes). Sort of a sort set, I guess but we enjoyed it a lot. He did a couple of covers Heartbeats, of course, plus "Hand On Your Heart" by Kylie Minogue and "Teardrop" by Massive Attack.

Stage banter:
"They told me that, in the hotel that I'm staying, that people will come into your room, through the window. If you leave the curtains open people will come in if you let them... I will not let them."

First two tracks I've heard off the new album sound great.
I really really like this guy.

questeon the answers (call all destroyer), Friday, 26 November 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

i havent heard it but rope and summit and chickens were on constant replay on my ipod this summer

plax (ico), Friday, 26 November 2010 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

unplugged motorik is a good look def, never really paid much attn to this guy but ive wondered if that was a bad idea based on those 2

plax (ico), Friday, 26 November 2010 20:47 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know if his voice or guitar would really hold my attention on their own but the interplay between these three guys is really superb

questeon the answers (call all destroyer), Friday, 26 November 2010 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

album's sorta boring, not dark enough - but amaaaazing live.

sean gramophone, Friday, 26 November 2010 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

I love the way the album drifts and meanders, and periodically gives you belting tunes. Great driving music.

Dude seriously needs to make a balearic dance-folk album with Prins Thomas or suchlike urgently.

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Monday, 29 November 2010 10:36 (fifteen years ago)

Just found out not too long ago he once did a cover of "Smalltown Boy". It is bee-you-tee-ful as expected.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 29 November 2010 10:39 (fifteen years ago)

Been loving the Junip album for the last week or so.

scott pgwp (pgwp), Monday, 29 November 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

Smalltown Boy cover played way too fast, imo.

Fields is really hitting the spot today. Quite a fine record.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

That Junip record is super underrated.

scott pgwp (pgwp), Thursday, 3 February 2011 05:10 (fifteen years ago)

As far as I can tell, everything this dude touches is gold. His early solo EPs are great, both solo albums are great, Junip EPs are great, "Fields" is great, and boy can he pick a tune to cover.

Also, if anyone knows a synonym for "great" please let me know...

Srsly tho, putting all Jose's tunes on shuffle is bliss.

alpine static, Thursday, 3 February 2011 06:34 (fifteen years ago)

Fields was one of my albums of 2010. Certainly the one that got played the most.

Daniel Giraffe, Thursday, 3 February 2011 10:52 (fifteen years ago)

If I had heard Fields earlier it probably would have made my ballot for the 2010 poll. Warm and gorgeous on a cold blustery day.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 3 February 2011 12:15 (fifteen years ago)

Black plague good

Fields was certainly in my Top 5 for last year. I'm not a huge fan of his solo stuff as it seems a bit light (if that's the right word) but the Junip stuff is fantastic.

New Junip album sounding great too

groovypanda, Monday, 22 April 2013 12:47 (twelve years ago)

totally underrated band

sean gramophone, Monday, 22 April 2013 14:55 (twelve years ago)

yeah they're good. some songs have a little gerry rafferty vibe to them.

if you're on the fence about seeing him on this current tour, he is doing about half the set with yMusic as his backing band.
and it's amazing.
