Poni Hoax

Have any of you had the pleasure to be able to listen or see these people live? (Poni Hoax) I am really curious to hear what they sound like. I love the Tigersushi label and Ewan Pearson described Poni Hoax's "Budapest", "as a fantastic bit of horror-disco, with anxious female vocal and creaking cellos." I am curious. Thanks for any help. Been searching soulseek for months now.

i'll dropload you a track if you promise not to let it get onto soulseek.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

you got my word jd. I love the tigersushi label too much to do stuff like that. email it or however you wanna go about sharing it. Also would you care if I played it on my radio show tonight? Just curious, if you would rather me not play it, then I will happily oblige. Thank you.

dj Mattiepoo, Tuesday, 19 April 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

ok - i am sending it now via dropload. i am sure it's fine to play it on your radio show.

kacka thompson (kacka), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 06:53 (twenty years ago)

duud---==didn't the scissor sisters do a cover of that?

kacka thompson (kacka), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 06:54 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
I'm loving this album.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Sunday, 23 July 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

is there lots more on it like 'budapest'? please say yes.

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

I only just heard the album the other day. WILDLY uneven, but the half that's good is pretty good, so I'm hanging on to it for now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, "loving" became "liking" by the album's end.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

Needs more girl vocals. Budapest unfortunately seems to be an anomaly.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 23 July 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, there's one other song on the album with a female singer and that's it. That said "Budapest" is sounding very good on this DJ Naughty mix I R listening to this second. But as for the core band -- half rather-quite-good neo-post-punk/raincoat epics, half 'why are you even BOTHERING' rubbish.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 July 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

I've been kind of hooked on "Cheer Leader in My Dreams" for the last three days.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 23 July 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

"Budapest" is based on Kim Wilde's 'Cambodia'.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Sunday, 23 July 2006 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

Only steal from the best, my friend.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 July 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, "Budapest," with Olga Kouklaki, and "Le Fil Du Temps," featuring Ami Sioux, are def my favorites. The guy does an okay gloss of John Cale on "CarrieAnn," but otherwise, he's kinda boring (but not irritating, despite also sounding a bit like Jim Morrison and/or Nick Cave), and sometimes gets in the way of some more interesting sounds, like what is that, sort of a blend of a saxophone and siren? Shows up a few times, too briefly. And yeah, "Budapest" is a good pick for DJ Naughty, but I'm not so crazy about most of that either, although it beats Poni Hoax (whose album will be forever best known by its excellent cover: the girl sitting naked with the bird on her wrist[is it an owl? Is she looking to the left, or down, or up at us, with those pale blue eyes? Must try magnifying glass again).

don (dow), Sunday, 23 July 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

That DJ Naughty mix is so so so amazing.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 24 July 2006 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yes!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 24 July 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

We should start a separate thread. It is a treat of a mix.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 July 2006 01:48 (nineteen years ago)

joakim produced this didn't he? wonder if he'll do some remixes of stuff on it, 'budapest' italo dub still rules.

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 24 July 2006 02:10 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, the joakim italo dub is just stellar

isn't there a joakim full length in the works?

james brooks (j_brooks), Monday, 24 July 2006 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

yeah there is! can't wait.

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 24 July 2006 02:52 (nineteen years ago)

Eskimo has gotten much better distribution in US/Canada so you should be seeing more of their recent mix cds from the past year or two in the bins.

six months pass...
To this day, I still don't know whether I love or hate this album. A lot of tracks start out pretty horribly before settling nicely into some angular groove.

is anyone anticipating the new Baaderonixx? (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

According to Joakim's myspace, he's currently at work producing their sophomore album...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

still no progress on figuring this out. Budapest came up on shuffle the other day, which got me thinking I'd been sleeping on a great album all along. Not really sure about that

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 12:51 (eighteen years ago)

New album is called Images of Sigrid, out April 28. Has "Antibodies," presumably, which is a good start, and this song too.

Also it looks like this:

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, cool. I want to hear this. I still adore "Budapest", it's never missing on my party mixes.

Turangalila, Thursday, 14 August 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

Album is better than the last. People are sleepin

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 14 August 2008 01:28 (seventeen years ago)

Album seems better than the last one but 'Paper Bride' is no 'Budapest'...

baaderonixx, Thursday, 14 August 2008 06:26 (seventeen years ago)

'Antibodies' is rocking my world right now. Can't wait to play it at a party
