Because it's a perfect moment in pop?

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

hi Tom!

zebedee (zebedee), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Why shouldn't they discuss Barbara Dickson and Elaine Paige?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

I sense big things for this thread.

todd burns (toddburns), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

I sense no further posts on this thread.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

Is it really a perfect moment in pop? Isn't it just a really old bad song?

sensei, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

And your idea of a perfect moment in pop would be?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

That's what the feature claims, not me.

I claim that it's a bit over-wrought but great fun to bellow out after a few beers. So more of a perfect moment in pub.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

The 'doo doo doo's on Shanice's "I love your smile"?

sensei455, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

That explains it then.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

You're only supposed to start these threads about Pitchfork.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

Tim Rice bugs me. (Not continuously, admittedly)

In each musical, a showstopping tune from a woman about how fabulous this man is, sob sob simper. First time, Jesus. Fair enough I guess. Second time, a chess champion?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

"High Flying Adored" flips things though.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

So who was hotter?

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

You forgot the showstopping tune from a woman about how fabulous this country is, viz. "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" which even Tim Rice later admitted was a song about empty promises and gestural words meaning nothing, i.e. the lyric is a series of deliberately bland platitudes.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

When I lived in Chelsea I used to see Elaine Paige in the local newsagent's quite a lot, with her dog (i.e. West Highland terrier not Tim Rice ahem).

Can't say I've ever nurtured a crush of shame (or otherwise) on either.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Yes exactly, the whole point of DCFMA is that it's a podium speech - the best versions of it make that obvious but at the same time allow cracks to show. Also you have to take it in conjunction with top death-of-Princess-Di track "Oh What A Circus".

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Q. Who is Kamel Bourgass's favourite lyricist?
A. Tim Ricin

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

i voted for this in the battle of the decades thing. it is great. so many hataz

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

by David Essex, of course. "SHE! DID! NOTHING! for years..."

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

...by David Essex as Che Guevara, mark you!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

Yes, David Essex as Che Guevara and sounding particularly husky.

xpost

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

.. as opposed to "unidentified" in the film.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm really going to have to do a sequel to my David-Essex-on-CBS blog piece to talk about David Essex on Mercury. Everyone thinks he blanded out with "Tahiti" etc. in later years but he continued being extremely weird; I mean, "Imperial Wizard"!!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

Salt mine king, and all that. Oh yes.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)
