Artists with PayPal accounts

Do you know of any that have them? Advertising it on their websites perhaps as a means of enabling people to reward them for their efforts out of courtesy and the kindness of their own hearts.

What are the legal implications of this? Any money received by artists in this way would probably contravene their contracts if they have them, and it would be classed as 'donation' or 'gift' so I'm wondering about the tax issue as well.

The examples I can think of offhand are small bands and/or bands on smaller labels, so it's doubtless a different world there. High profile acts, hmm...

Haha, good ol' Marissa!

EVERY artist should have this kind of paying model on their website (and all downloads shoud be free).

Certainly all artists not tied up with restricting contracts should. Eventually I imagine major labels providing similar systems on their artists sites - seems like just good business sense no (for them at least, obvious heavy repurcussions on the offline retail industry as things progress).

Then again, as I'm sure Marissa would confirm, voluntary Paypal accounts = no donations.

Hi, I believe that PBS public television, independant artists should ask for donations.
The public has to become more responsible for what we see and hear.
Major labels can decide not to be responsible.
High profile acts, in some people's opinions are just name brands.
some people are more impressed with fame then they are in the music.
but I think people are becoming aware, the majors are not doing a nice job of giving interesting and diverse music to the public.

I saw Brave Captain's site, he's doing a monthly "singles" club, which is £1 for a new track each month.
