Anyone else a fan of this lovingly made Beatles pastiche/parody?

I especially like "Everybody Else Is Wrong"

It's everything the first side of Faithful tried to be but wasn't.

"I Just Want To Touch You" gets in my head as often as most Beatles songs do. It's kind of fascinating the way those chords work--the bit at the end of every verse's second line is nonintuitive in a Lennon/McCartney way, but it's still VERY obviously a Rundgren move...

Does anyone else hear "Everybody Else is Wrong" as an affectionate slap at Lennon?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Brilliant album. More of a pastiche than a parody.

Btw. those who like "Deface The Music" should also check out The Spongetones, who are doing very much the same thing, only even less tongue in cheek, and with even more empasis on the tunes.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, "parody" isn't really the word.

Geir, the Spongetones used to be a regional band for me when I lived in Virginia. Lots of power pop and similar stuff in the D.C./Virginia/North Carolina area. Are you a fan of Tommy Keene's?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

Just slightly familiar with Tommy Keene. What I've heard is a lot more pure powerpop than the extremely Beatlesque material that Spongetones did on "Beat Music", "Torn Apart" and "Oh Yeah" though.

Geir, are you a Nazz fan? You must be.

Noel Gallagher called him "that clever fucker with the Telecaster" when Oasis toured with the Velvet Crush lineup with Tommy.
