I listented to it like 10 times today. All the way through. And it's only 7:00!

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

it is a good album, no question. not the best ever, though.

"get me off" is my favourite.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

I bought it cuz of all the hype.
I sold it a week later.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

...so, no, I wouldn't agree that its the best album ever.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

i own it and have listened to it thru once.

im somewhat unqualified to offer an opinion.

acidmouth (acidmouth), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

I enjoy it but Discovery would be my pick for this sort of album.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

I like Kish Kash more.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

I went for a week or so thinking it was the best album ever, so as far as I'm concerned it's got as much right to the title as anything else.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

With Dan here OH THE SHOCK. Rooty starts out brilliantly but drags after a bit, though "Where's Your Head At" sure forgives many sins.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

I like Remedy more than both

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

I love tracks 1-8 on the Atlantic Jaxx compilation more than anything else they've done.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

Me too Spencer! I really think they've gone downhill since...

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:04 (twenty years ago)

best album ever.

f-a-b-o-l-o-u-s (adamwest), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

The moment when "Get Me Off" finally replaces "Romeo" as the best song on the record is a little sad, but sexy.

W i l l (common_person), Thursday, 21 April 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

I got the album on recommendation from a friend who I generally share similar musical tastes with, and I absolutely HATED it. It just gets on my nerves. :/

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Thursday, 21 April 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

The moment when "Get Me Off" finally replaces "Romeo" as the best song on the record is a little sad, but sexy.

"Get Me Off" has always been the best song on "Rooty", though.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 April 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

i definitely like Kish Kash more, too.

sovietpanda (sovietpanda), Thursday, 21 April 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

Rooty is my sentimental favourite BJ album. My "official" favourite changes quite often.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Oh man. If it ended on "Do Your Thing" I'd be pretty quick to agree with the sentiment but after the novelty wears off "All I Know" is a pretty mediocre closer.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha "All I Know" is one of their best tracks ever Nate and is a huge part of why this album is my sentimental favourite!

I will never ever ever understand people's indifference towards that track.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Whilst I love it, I'd actually pick Rooty as my least favourite Jaxx studio album, although "Do Your Thing" is probably my favourite song by them.

Nick H (Nick H), Thursday, 21 April 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

my best "Rooty" moment ever: "Do Your Thing" starting off Junior Sanchez's set at a 9/11 benefit in NYC: "I don't need no TV/I don't need no news/All I need is a bumping beat/To bump away my blue-woo-woo-woos!" while I'm on mushrooms.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 21 April 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

So am I the only person who thinks both Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk peaked with their *first* albums?

xhuxk, Thursday, 21 April 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

You also have Simon Reynold as company

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Reynolds

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

I really don't think Simon prefers Homework to Discovery

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

me too xhuxk.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

BREAKAWAY.

g e o f f (gcannon), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

those opening orch hits are...i dunno, i've been trying to come up with a phrase, but they're fkn great.

g e o f f (gcannon), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha "All I Know" is one of their best tracks ever Nate and is a huge part of why this album is my sentimental favourite!

that's interesting because although obv. different in sound it's role on the album is exactly the same as that of 'Stop 4 Love' on 'Remedy' and i'd cite the latter track as one of my favourites for this same, exquisite, sentimental quality - the payoff being it's followed by 'Being With U'. I get fed up mentioning 'Remedy' as my favourite of the three albums by a notch because it automatically undermines the other two when they're all just utterly brilliant and would all be in my top 20 favourites of all time.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

"Breakaway" is the second-best song on Rooty.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 April 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

GOD I wish they'd put out a mix-CD, they're GREAT DJs.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 21 April 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

most overrated act: the basement jaxx
not bad, though, just very much overrated.
best album ever? never!

zeus, Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

"get me off" is my favourite.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

"Jus 1 Kiss" is the best, obviously!

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

My favortie from Rooty is probably "Crazy Girl".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that little guitar flourish at the end slays me.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

mix cd? they have three 2hr essential mixes you can get off slsk. the tracklistings (here, here and here) are nuts.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 22 April 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

Quelle suprise, I feel Kish Kash more! And because I don't have a copy of the 'Romeo' album version, 'Breakaway' starts my Rooty album off, which puts me in the mood so much more than Romeo would (especially if I decide to skip the rest and head straight for 'Right Here's The Spot').

'Do Your Thing' is the 2nd best track. I requested it in a club last week and instantly became the cetre of dancefloor attention.

Plus-Tech Whiz Kid (Disco) (Barima), Friday, 22 April 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

My favourite Rooty tracks are all the ones that haven't been mentioned on this thread as people's favourites or idea of what's best.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

What about 'what's the best 'lude'? That'd be much more interesting. I'll go with 'Cosmolude' on Kish Kash - 'Robert Owens in the echo chamber' as Jess perfectly described it.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

'Petrilude' for perfect lead-in.
'Cosmolude'
'Jaxxalude'
'Kissalude'
'Jazzalude'

The Irrelevant Man (Negativa) (Barima), Friday, 22 April 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

not what are the five best!

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Shut it, doofus. 'Petrilude' is top of the list, be happy with that.

The Irrelevant Man (Negativa) (Barima), Friday, 22 April 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

thanks bitch, still need a phone?

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

You are truly full of love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 April 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

"Kissalude" is number one of course.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

that's probably my least favourite out of all of them.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

just got it in the mail today... reveling in the glory.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Monday, 2 May 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

Lets talk about the greatness of the Jus One Kiss (Isley Bootleg)

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

'remedy' (1st side) is my sentimental favourite ('jazzalude', or whatever follows 'red alert' being the best lude), but 'kish kash' is best come ON.

enjoy it but Discovery would be my pick for this sort of album.
-- Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (speed.to.roa...), April 20th, 2005.

[tries to think of of 'sort' of album this is? insanely good albums released in 2001 -- that sort?]

N_RQ, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I'd still pick Kish Kash from their's, because I think that brings to the fore their ability to work around such differing vocalist as Dizzee, JC and Lisa Kekaula. That takes nothing away from Remedy and Rooty though. They're three albums in and not a duff one yet.

Is there any sign of a fourth one yet?

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

fourteen years pass...

Duuuuude, I feel like Archimedes. Just stumbled upon the 0.5-second sample that's looped at the beginning of 'U Can't Stop Me'. It's not even listed on WhoSampled.

Check it out, around 1:53

Unparalleled Elegance (Old Lunch), Friday, 3 April 2020 12:45 (six years ago)

the vocal performance on the second verse of "Romeo" is gorgeous

DJP, Friday, 3 April 2020 17:19 (six years ago)

"Get Me Off" is still the best song on the album tho

DJP, Friday, 3 April 2020 17:47 (six years ago)

I'm a "Breakaway" myself.

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Friday, 3 April 2020 18:02 (six years ago)

That's my 2nd fave

DJP, Friday, 3 April 2020 18:15 (six years ago)

15 years of consistency right here

DJP, Friday, 3 April 2020 18:15 (six years ago)
