TS: the POPPY FAMILY versus the CARPENTERS

That's a tough choice, but I'd say Carpenters, The Poppies only had two albums.

That said, I think I'll go listen to Which Way You Goin', Billy? Thanx!

I can see the similarities between these two pairs of softrockers, since Terry & Susan Jacks seemed wholesome enough to be siblings rather than husband & wife. But other than that, my knowledge is limited to "Billy", Poppy Seeds (haven't heard it in 20+ yrs but I remember it as half great/half meh), and the Carpenters' equally inconsistent singles. Sounds like a tie, so I guess I'll choose the Poppy Family, out of dumb blind patriotism. (Plus the fact that they gave us "Where Evil Grows")

The Poppy Family. It's such deliciously eerie pop, and Susan's voice is heaven. There is no denying "Free From the City," the "Endless Sleep" cover, "You Took My Moonlight," "That's Where I Went Wrong," etc.

I really like Susan and Jack's solo ventures too.

maybe I should listen to the Carpenters more, but I feel like the Poppy Family has more strangeness brewing under the surface, and I really like that strangeness. Granted, Karen's voice is much more strong/powerful than Susan's. Karen's is a better voice, I think, but not by enough to sway the vote.

Had only known "Billy" until now. Digging "Where Evil Grows" - it's like if Buckingham/Nicks had grown up in Moose Jaw.
