WTF: Willie Nelson w/ Kid Rock

...and not just Kid Rock. Also Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow. And half the songs are co-written by Bernie Taupin, for gosh sake. Now I have a love-hate relationship with Willie, but I've had the utmost respect for him over the last number of years, especially after turning out albums as truly fine as Spirit and Teatro. But this looked like such a potential steaming turd of a concept (Willie Nelson! Written by the guy that brought you ELTON! JOHN! Plus a duet about the open prairie with one of the hottest new punk-ass nasty artists to lure in the kids!) that I just had to get it to see how mind-numbingly vile it is. And I really don't know yet. I can't decide. Anyone else have any opinions on this? Travesty? Genius? Does anyone even care?

New whoops, I forgot, the album is called The Great Divide, and it's out on Lost Highway and HEY WHATEVER HAPPENED TO WILLIE'S REGGAE ALBUM ANYHOW answers.

Betcha it's pretty good. I was never a big fan, but bought both Teatro and Spirit, and both are great. All-star duet albums really aren't my thing, but he could have worse people to collaborate with.

Well, the verdict is in, and a good chunk of the album is not bad. The track with Kid Rock is actually one of the better ones too. A few of the tracks that are Willie by himself are the ugly ones, with really soppy rock production. So, it's not Teatro by any means, but it's also not the disaster it looks like on paper.

eleven months pass...
Oh god, this is the worst album by the best dude, sorta like the longest bridge over the smallest body of water.

The live album released after 'great divide' does have Ryan Adams! Covering 'the harder they come,' no less!

make it stop! Willie, chew off your arm!

So, whatever DID happen to Willie's reggae album?
