I think that Elvis Costello's "Distorted Angel" addresses god.

Wasn't there a rash of hippie Christianity in the 70s, with the Doobies' "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Spirit in the Sky"?

I can think of a thousand good songs that have an offhand mention of God having mercy, God knowing something. If those count, then I'd nominate "Tangled Up in Blue," ("Lord knows I paid some dues") and Brooce's Rosalita-- "My tires were slashed and I almost crashed but the lord had mercy; now my machine she's a dud all stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey." One of his better rhymes, too.
