Haven't heard it yet.

I give 1 to 7 odds that this is actually good.

Morbid curiosity forced me to listen to the sample in iTunes.

I think that if you really like those bands and the song "Under Pressure," it might be the kind of thing you like, but neither is true for me. It'll probably be a really big radio hit, though.

I listened to a 30 second sample. If they actually try the operatic Freddie Mercury stuff (Crooked Fingers didn't - dorks) I'll probably like it.

It'll be like a watered down version of the Blood Brothers' cover. Of course, that one was pretty awesome.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

No doubt! BB can definitely (man)handle the falsetto.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

They don't tackle the operatic stuff, but at least the resisted the urge to slip in a verse of "Ice Ice Baby."

It's a lot better than I anticipated. I wouldn't change the channel if I heard it on the radio.

I stand behind the Crooked Fingers cover. Other than that, I got nothin'.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

It's not a bad cover, very pretty, I just think it sucks how these bands never do the falsettos, which part of what makes "Under Pressure" the best track ever. I gotta hear this BB version!

miccio (miccio), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I cannot imagine it being very good.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

It's okay I guess. Faithful to the original and for a good cause. My onlyy problem is that it's introduced by the band as a song recorded NOT by QUEEN and David Bowie BUT "Freddie Mercury and David Bowie"...

Lest we forget, one of the song's most powerful elements is John Deacon's intoxicating bass line.

I probably should not have a problem with this but I'm a grumpy Queen fan today.

Who could forget?

That riff was really as cool as ice.

ZionTrain, Friday, 22 April 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

My kid brother saw them do this live and said it kicked ass.

Huk-L, Friday, 22 April 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

The Owls have covered this too. As for The Used and MCR's take, it's probably awesome to see in a concert context but I don't think I could enjoy it as a single.

I feel like a good 10 to 20% of the songs on modern rock radio last year were covers. Do we really need more? Can't Lenny Kravitz write his own damn songs for once?

billstevejim, Friday, 22 April 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

He was able to write them to begin with?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 April 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

OOH SWEET LADY

miccio (miccio), Friday, 22 April 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

She's not shady!

Huk-L, Friday, 22 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Kravitz vs Eminem Beef!

Huk-L, Friday, 22 April 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

I listened to it... and damn i actually like it, the simple fact of those bands doing it makes it already a guilty pleasure for me. I hate them!!! But they did a good decent cover of a song i love.

elgolfo (elgolfo), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Flaming Lips also did a decent cover it on a 7-inch.

Mark (MarkR), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

In a weird way, bits of it remind of Fugazi songs like "Reclamation".

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

(I don't know if I should feel bad about saying this but I think I might actually like it more than some of those. It's looser. I'm admittedly not a huge Fugazi fan to begin with, though I like enough of their stuff.)

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 23 April 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

love blood bros version; hate teh corny fux

Somehow that post convinced me to dl the BB version.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 23 April 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

OK, you're right, that one's better. Are there three singers on the coda?
