There is a Smashing Pumpkins thread threatening to encroach upon DK territory, and I refuse to let it happen.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-fficiency and progress is ours once-a more..."

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 24 April 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

What about it? Not only is it a classic, but it's mandatory. If you don't know it, you're not worth talking to. Hahahahahaha.

i love all of it except why doesn't he say "efficiency and progress are ours once more"?

I hate that "Police Truck" isn't on my CD edition.

Two good singles and some crap, as I remember (owned it 5-6 years ago). I'd prob think it was great now.

There is NO "crap" on Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables>

I think it's pretty fucking great all the way through. "Let's Lynch the Landlord" is my favourite off it. I love that happy guitar solo in the middle. I like "Frankenchrist" better though, out of the Kennedys' albums.

'i love all of it except why doesn't he say "efficiency and progress are ours once more"?'

Becuz 'Efficiency & Progress' could be taken as a singular 'value' as expressed in corporate-government speak, rather than two separate things.

Maybe.

danski (danski), Sunday, 24 April 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I listened to this the other night, so classic. "Lynch the Landlord" is hysterical, and "California Uber Alles" is eerily prescient when you think about Ahnold being in the governor's chair.

I also noticed this time around that there's a very big 60's garage influence in their sound. It's like Nuggets on PCP.

Keith C (kcraw916), Sunday, 24 April 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

I like that Jello--the one non-musician of the group--would sing all the parts to the other members, and they would have to play them from that. That's probably why some the weirdo angular stuff sticks out so much.

But, um , don't tell DK's lawyers I said that, K?

Christopher R. Weingarten (whineyg), Sunday, 24 April 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Ahnold's apotheosis brought me back to this album, too. And not only is it like Nuggets, but they always had a big surf thing going on, too, thanks to East Bay Ray.

Good politics don't always make for good records.

that may be true, but I vastly prefer the 1st DK record to the single decent Fear album.

I love FEAR, but there's no comparison. Apples and oranges, man.

Is the reverse also true?
