I have it, and an OINK (and IndieTorrents, where it was uploaded before) membership. Is there any easy way to upload it somewhere we can all get it?

dstopping, Monday, 25 April 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

Make a .zip file out of it and upload it to http://www.yousendit.com , then come back here and post the link.

"...whoever shall slap thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other."

Matthew 5:39, Monday, 25 April 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

Well I guess I set myself up for that one, didn't I?

Jimmy Mod Knows You Eat Your Own Farts (ModJ), Monday, 25 April 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

is it common to get a virus from files downloaded through slsk? is usendit safer?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 25 April 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

someone please upload it to yousendit for us!

breezy, Monday, 25 April 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

i'm beginning to doubt it was really leaked since no one is commenting on it. or its boring?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 25 April 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

No, it's real.
Here's th' thing: I got to talk to Sufjan this year about his views on sharing his music online and he seemed VERY open to that kind of exposure... HOWEVER, posting a whole album isn't publicity for Sufes. It's simple piracy.
Instead of begging and trading the whole frickin' album, may I recommend you scoot on by Teaching the Indie Kids to Dance to get the lead off single?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

i like that single somewhat. it really shows off his music talets, although to somewhat of a hit to his songwriting skills.

jonathan - stl (jonathan - stl), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

And incidentally, I think the single is pretty amazing.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

you should close your tags when you namedrop.

Jimmy Mod Knows You Eat Your Own Farts (ModJ), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

whoa. that track from TTIKTD sounds like tahiti 80! sufjan sounds french pop!
it's good though. but SUPER produced sounding. esp his vocals.

breezy, Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

VEGETABLA

Amon (eman), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

Namedropping Sufjan is like acting cool because you fucked the Bloc Party, dude. I'm just statin' th' facts.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

I love this album.

Jimmy Mod Knows You Eat Your Own Farts (ModJ), Thursday, 28 April 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

wow!! anyone else wow?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 05:20 (twenty years ago)

i think the album's surprisingly boring (and think the same of that single), but "casimir palaski" day is -wonderful-.

Sean M (Sean M), Friday, 29 April 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

i like casimir palaski a lot. yeah last nite i listened to more of it and started to get dissappointed. i'm liking the single though just for the build up in the middle and the fact that it sounds like music for a stage production.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

i love what he does. however I think a lot of his lyrics are ridiculously cheesy. listen to John Wayne Gacy Jr. It's pretty enough, but it makes me cringe when I listen to what he is singing about....

breezy, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

yeah the cheese is there on this album - when he tries to personalize things that aren't personal to him. i'm not sure how he did it with michigan. all the soft/touching/scary mental songs rang true somehow

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

yeah I agree. this time it's over the top. not that I don't like the songs, but sometimes I have to seriously just look away. Chicago also has the same melody as another song of his and I can't figure out which one. I can't tell how I feel about this. I think if I'd never had heard michigan I'd probably love this a whole lot more and could maybe overlook the omnipresent cheese

breezy, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

there is a song on here that has the same exact melody as another - i'm not sure if its chicago b/c i got the tracks all mxied up - but its so exact that i'm sure its intentional. agree - over the top. and agree about never hearing michigan-probaly be blown away by this. i also think sufjan's voice is so distinct that it might be interesting to hear someone else sing his songs or some different kind of backup. anyway, in general does this album feel a little like later paul simon work crossed with andrew lloyd webber?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

yeah I haer that. i just listened to casimir pulaski day. which is gorgeous but so overwhelmingly christian it bothers me a touch. all this lord, and bible study talk is finally getting to me. i somehow managed to overlook it the past few albums. this time around it's harder...but I'm trying

breezy, Friday, 29 April 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

sufjan actually strikes me as a serial killer - maybe that will help

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

turning to god during a set---

breezy, Friday, 29 April 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

freaky!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Chicago also has the same melody as another song of his and I can't figure out which one. I can't tell how I feel about this.

Chicago was one of the standouts when he was on the road last summer. The album track is a bit of a letdown. Feels, if such a thing is possible, both overproduced and thin.

Don't have access to my music at the moment, so I can't be sure, but off the top of my head it maybe sounds a bit like Romulus?

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

that's totally it! I just listened to it. it's a sped up romulus! Susan I don't think he deliberately did that rip off of that song

weird

breezy, Friday, 29 April 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the confirmation, breezy.

I am so full of myself right now.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

if thats the one i'm thinking of its an exact replica-hmmm

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

xx-post -- yeah it was chicago and it is romulus. i thought it was purposeful , but who knows.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

wait, its not romulus

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 29 April 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

*sound of air escaping as rogermexico deflates*

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 29 April 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 30 April 2005 01:54 (twenty years ago)

i feel so terrible

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 30 April 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

This album makes me tingly in my specials area.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

does anyone think the decatur song is just horrible? not to be completely negative - I'm actually liking the rest of this album. am really liking UFO song, even wayne gacy, and def. casimir palaski.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

Sufjan Please Oink the leaked YSI from Someone

Amon (eman), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

Thread is risen!

Because I finally had a chance to listen and, er, OMG "Casimir Pulaski Day". Someone please tell me it won't get old after a week...

(Susan Douglas, Breezy - Sister:Casimir Pulaski::Romulus:Chicago)

i just listened to casimir pulaski day. which is gorgeous but so overwhelmingly christian it bothers me a touch. all this lord, and bible study talk is finally getting to me

I don't hear this. The lyrics seem detailed and immediate, but the christian elements seem appropriately descriptive of a certain kind of (let's say) midwestern youth in a short-fiction way rather than WWJD Xtian.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Thursday, 12 May 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

it won't get old after a week. i'm crazy about this album, i even love it when it gets ridiculous (i ESPECIALLY love it when it gets ridiculous), the only deadspot for me right now is the gacy song.
