fnkmstr hlkngtn, Monday, 25 April 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

What I heard in the last hour:
"Lonely No More"
"Livin' La Vida Loca"
that song where R. Kelly and Ja Rule question your love
"New Slang"
something that I think was Gang Gang Dance
"Iron Man"
"What A Fool Believes"
"Space Oddity"
"Take Me Out"

four years pass...

My reason behind hating Pitchfork is split between two things:
1. When I want to find new music I've gone to Pitchfork's site and clicked on the music player to hear the top new singles. 30 seconds or occasionally 10 seconds is all I need to be deeply disgusted in contemporary hipster music. Last time I clicked my way through about 35 songs before I finally had to give up. The fuck is wrong with music today. In the defense of the music I heard on the player, one or two artists were just okay rather than awful.
2. The music that I do like gets 6.0 -7.0 reviews if it is reviewed by Pitchfork. - think filler music might be a part of the reason why. I'm more of a playlist/mix cd making kind of person that I don't get bothered when a few sucky songs make it on an album that has a few songs I deem excellent.

I understand that Pitchfork has become more diverse since it's first years but I still think of pitchfork as representative of the most popular indie/alternative music. And this music is mostly shit or blah. It's funny noticing the trends over the past couple years but it's sad that people are buying into this.

I wouldn't mind hearing some of the softer Pitchfork highlighted bands as background music at a restaurant but in general Pitchfork seems symbolic of "shoot me in the face, I can't believe people love this wanky, awkward, 21st century musical stylings". But alas I know they do.. and it's even been brought into my home by my little sister's friends.

you prefer Bavarian Folk Music?

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 21 February 2010 01:32 (sixteen years ago)

Fuck, Lorax. It's a big Internet. Don't expect Pitchfork to make your decisions for you.

It's like having millions of cable channels and crying to a message board that you don't like what NBC has on. There a limitless ways to find bands you like. Sorry you had to hear Washed Out to learn that.

I think he is saying that he is upset people are buying into what he thinks is shitty music being pushed by Pitchfork.
I don't think he is as worried that this is what Pitchfork is forcing him personally to listen to.

Evan, Sunday, 21 February 2010 03:26 (sixteen years ago)

evan has an insight into the mind of lorax

i know who the sockpuppet master of ilx is (velko), Sunday, 21 February 2010 03:34 (sixteen years ago)

so jealous.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 21 February 2010 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

I am your prophet.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of Lorax, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Evan, Sunday, 21 February 2010 03:38 (sixteen years ago)

evan almighty, who are lorax's favorate bands?

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 21 February 2010 03:40 (sixteen years ago)

i already know one of his favorite shows is icarly. can't front, i watch that too (otoh, i have a 9-year old daughter, who insists on watching every episode).

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 21 February 2010 03:41 (sixteen years ago)

Listen, we should have gained sufficient experience by this time to realize that no man, no individual, no clique, and no band can combine with force and power sufficient to overturn the purposes of the Almighty; or to change the course of his work.

I say, no fair saying this without talking about all the amazing music you are hearing that's not being covered by Pitchfork (that way we have a frame of reference you see).

four years pass...

so has P4K Radio Presented By Lexus killed off Pitchfork Advance? more to the point: whatever the reason, is Pitchfork Advance dead? i actually streamed albums there.

alpine static, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 08:33 (eleven years ago)

pitchfork advance was pretty nice yeah, shame if it is gone

i tuned in to 'pitchfork radio' yesterday to check it out and i don't see the appeal, the entire playlist appears to be stuff that is on their end-of-year/end-of-decade/end-of-arbitrary-length-of-time lists with almost no new or unexpected stuff at all

dyl, Thursday, 12 February 2015 15:13 (eleven years ago)

every site (not just pitchfork) jumped on the "streaming album premiere" dick once they saw NPR having moderate success with it, but NPR is funded by LISTENERS LIKE YOU and not hard traffic numbers, so everyone slowly realized that having, like, 900 people click on some new indie rock album isn't worth the time/energy/resources to get permission, upload that stuff into an admin system, build a post etc

pro stroke Johnny Gill songs would rub you the right way (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)
