If:

A) Picaresque has been the most enjoyable Decemberists album for you by miles and miles and... just a lot better than the others.

B) Elevator is to you a highly enjoyable pop album, and a fantastic progression and development of Hot Hot Heat's songwriting.

C) A Ha Shake Heartbreak is a great second step for a still young band, with a fantastic lead singer

Then you're a lot like me~ Nice to meet you all!

I don't think there are many people here that are a lot like you...but HI!

Hi!

Hi Yoshinorimike,...

(A) From what little I've heard of theirs, I don't the word "enjoyable" should be used in the same sentence with "Decemberists" unless there's a "Not" in front of it.

(B) I haven't heard the new Hot Hot Heat album, though I found a free copy of it on the discard pile here at work. It currently sits here on my desk, wrapped and unplayed....a condition in which it will probably remain. I enjoyed their last album -- and even went to go see them (an evening I remember very little about -- they were fine, but left no huge impression on me). As much as I liked that album, I'd be telling a brontosaurus-sized fib if I said I've played it in the past two year or so. I can't imagine why anyone would need more than one album by this band.

(C) I'm not familiar with this band nor their work.

...but hello and welcome anyway.

That should've read: I don't think the word... blah blah blah. Sorry, not enough coffee this morning.

Also, Yoshi....forget testing the waters. If I'd done that back in 2001, I never would've stuck around (cue whistful cries of "if only" from the ILM upper galleries). Dive right in. Make a big splash. Throw a few needlessly declarative statements around. See what happens.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 25 April 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Hola etc. Wot Alex said, and so long as you know that everyone's right for themselves (if you will), y'all do fine.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 April 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

Do people actively follow retro bands, or do they retro follow them. Do they dress up like groupies from the 70s, and mime enthusiasm? Do they notice when you turn the volume all the way down?

HeadyLiquors, Monday, 25 April 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

if alex in nyc disagrees with you then you are on the right track.

keith m (keithmcl), Monday, 25 April 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Rewind on point A) The Decemberists have gone from GREAT to AVERAGE to DISMAL over the course of three albums.
B) I really hought HHH's first single was called 'Panda Jizz' for a long while.
C)If you had ever heard an annoying 6 year old (my son) singing the chorus from 'The Bucket' you'd never want to hear KOL ever again.
But hey welcome aboard - your money's as good as anyones.

peter d (peter dee), Monday, 25 April 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

A. I like the Decemberists, but I think "Picaresque" is a little spotty and "16 Military Wives" is fun but hamhanded in the extreme. OTOH, "We Both Go Down Together" is great.

B. I liked their first album, but I don't think I've played it in aboit a year, so i don't think I need the second one.

C. Still haven't heard the Kings of Leon. Oh wait, once, on MTV2, but they didn't make an impression.

And hi back.

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

I think Yoshinorimike's gotten a good introduction to ILM magic, right, fellas?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Keith M. should be shot out of a cannon into a septic tank of his own filth.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

why does the Kings Of Leon guy sing like that? was he shot in the face like 50 Cent?

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

hi Yoshinorimike. i know nothing at all about the artists/records you mention so i neither agree nor disagree. i quite like this way of introducing oneself to ilm though, and would like more people to adopt it.

welcomes.
