Can someone tell me where the Crypt One Club in London was situated? I've been reading 'Rip It Up And Start Again' by simon Reynolds(everybody here should be reading it) and I can't for the life of me remember where it was. I was there in '79 freezing to death waiting for Throbbing Gristle to perform.

Also, there was another band on that night, who I seem to recall where called 'Metabolist', can anyone confirm this? Seem to remember them being pretty good.

Wow, I'm impressed, is that the TG gig where Genesis P-Orridge had taken an overdose of sleeping pills before it and had to have his stomach pumped after it? I think that 1978 tho?

"We became friendly and they invited us to play with them at the Crypt (also known as the Cryptic One Club), a youth centre in North London"

From an SPK site, hope that jogs a memory or two.

To have actually witnessed a TG performance is something to brag about. ENVY!

Yep that was the one, though I didn't realise that at the time. Finally I can put that memory in order. Bishops Bridge Road - no wonder I couldn't place it. Is the church still there, or has it been flattened for 'luxury' apartments?

You're right it was '78 and I swear it was the night that the 'look' came about. It was a freezing cold night and being in a genuine crypt it was bloody cold once inside; consquently everybodty kept there coats on throughout the evening, however as the night wore on and the place was solid with bodies it turned into a sweatbox however there really was not room to actually take ones coat off. I've always said that at some point everyboy there looked aat each other and said "Hey, this looks right". Aloah! A couple hundred gloomies left that night and became the new fashion thing. A Special time, I fell into conversation with Karl Blake (Lemon Kittens) as we stamped the pavement outside before I (or anyone else at that point) knew who he was.

Thanks for the Metabolist link dadaismus. 'tis true it could do with a re-release.

Following mzui's link also answers another question which bugged me for awhile after the gig. I didn't realise RR and The Normal were there but they pasted together an incredible collection of laughter loops which came across as very sinister over the pa. I spent ages trying to track that down, I guess it was just a 'there and then' thing.
