I heard an EP promo that contained several remixes. Not enough to rate it with any certainty. It sounded a bit more adventurous than Mojave, which I count as a plus, although that could have been thanks to the remixers.

I just picked it up... I only heard the first 3 songs but I like it very much... His voice is a little more clear and less whispered..even though it is still whispered.. it's just less- whispered. It sounds different.. maybe he is not using vocal effects but his voice does not sound the same on Mojave 3... but, I only have the first album (ask me tomorrow) so... I could be wrong. todd

Although I'm of the firm belief that the wrong member of Mojave 3 has made a solo record, I can't let it get in the way of the fact that the record is good. It's a backing vocal and several bass lines away from a Mojave 3 record, actually -- if you get my drift. Any way you look at it, it's more or less the fourth Mojave 3 record. Halstead picks instead of strums, there are some vocal tricks, and there are more synths here and there -- aside from that, there's little to distinguish solo from band. It's more English sounding than American, which is a good thing these days -- if you get my drift

That was a perfect Halstead-y post, todd ;-)

(p.s. what's happened to rachel goswell then? anyone?)

Rachel's doing a solo thing too, which I'm rather excited about. There's apparently a fourth Mojave LP due later this year too.

I like the new Halstead stuff. It acts (to me) like a missing link between Slowdive and Mojave.

I must say... I love it.. "High Hopes" is incredible... Sure, I do wish Rachel Goswell was on at least one track but then, I guess it wouldn't be a solo album.. still.. I was surprised that there was an upbeat song on there... "rooftops"... It is a very nice album...
