Since I’ve put a lot of time recently into planning one of these concerts, and I think the whole series might be enjoyed by ILX folks who live in the vicinity of Santa Cruz (including the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley), I wanted to post a link to the Pacific Rim Festival of New and Traditional Music. There are nine concerts during April 29 - May 7. Featured performers include the Berkeley Symphony, the Kronos Quartet, the Earport Festival Ensemble from Germany, Speculum Musicae from New York, Quake from Seattle, Zakir Hussain, Pauline Oliveros, Aki Takahashi, Wu Han, and the list goes on, as you can see for yourself:

On a more personal note, the May 4 concert includes the premiere of a piece I wrote for the San Diego-based ensemble NOISE (plus recent works by Roger Reynolds, David Cope, Chris Dobrian, and Chris Burns). By way of explanation, let’s just say we’re counting the American West Coast as the other side of the Pacific Rim… Anyway, admission to this particular concert is free, and if any ILX regulars showed up and said Hi, I’d be tickled pink.
Finally, NOISE will preview my piece in San Diego on May 1. More info here.
