A bunch of remastered tracks for the upcoming Talking Heads reissues have been leaked from Rhino and put on the internet. The collection of songs contain both approved and not yet approved tracks to be included on new editions of "Talking Heads 77", "More Songs About Buildings and Food", "Fear of Music" and "Remain in Light". Who leaked the tracks and made them public is currently being investigated.

also from same:

"In an interview with the Australian magazine "Drum magazine", David Byrne confirmed the upcoming reissues of Talking Heads albums with bonus track, and also made an announcement about a 2-DVD set with Talking Heads TV appearances ("including some BBC and Channel 4 specials that have not bene seen").

No work on release date or exact specs yet."

Getting Excited if that's okay.

Sensibly they're only re-issuing the first 4, and not doing what every other bunch of chancers (hello rem, hello cure) are, and going teh whole hog on crappy late period stuff too.
no offence rem/cure fans!

b-b-but Speaking In Tongues!!

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

nah they already re-issued that all polished and improved with 5.1 stereo sound and a film attatched. they called it 'stop making sense'.
*although* cd quality versions of the jellybean remixes wouldn't go amiss.

Jeff W (zebedee), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

Do I not know the title or is "Love is a Building on Fire" not here? And seems like there are some other b-sides missing also ...

when something smacks of something (dave225.3), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

seems like there was another post-naked track as well, although sax and violins was pretty good (better than anything on naked, certainly)

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Let's be clear here: there is great potential for the Remain In Light bonus tracks to piss all over the rest.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

there is no way I'm buying anything that came after it certainly.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

The titles alone are making me drool...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Isn't there a rare 12" mix of "Crosseyed and Painless"? I heard it at a disco exhibit at New York Public Library -- had a massive breakdown. Doesn't seem like that will make the cut here.

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Where *did* "Love --> Building on Fire" go?

Tony Bleach, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Anybody know when the standalone reissues will come out?

I thought Love=Building was on the copy of '77. the AMG review says so.

Brakhage (brakhage), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

Confounded, the only other version of Crosseyed I know is actually shorter than the one on the LP: http://www.discogs.com/release/355975

Brakhage (brakhage), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

"Lifetime Piling Up" and some of the other Sand In The Vaseline stuff is missing --grumble--

Marxism Goes Better With Coke (Charles McCain), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

COUGH!!

Talking Heads : Brick Box Set (October 4th 2005) come anticipate and generally freak out here.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

the bonus tracks on the first four albums are pretty damn boring. the sound quality on them is breathtakingly good.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

yes! lifetime piling up! that song is excellent. really a weird thing for them to go out with two high notes like that.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

the bonus tracks on the first four albums are pretty damn boring.

Say it isn't so, Matos! I have these images in my head of songs like Fela's Riff, Unison, Double Groove and Right Start forging this mysterious fusion of Afrobeat and early-70's Miles...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

try very rough mixes of uncertain grooves with shaky vocals on top

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

Dang.

Brakhage (brakhage), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

they're absolutely worth it for the sound quality, though. I felt like I was hearing Fear of Music for the first time instead of approximately the 300th.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

fear of music and remain in light were terrible sounding CDs, so that's great news

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

That's disappointing -- particularly as it would be interesting to hear what the material might've sounded like before Eno chopped it up and looped it all. After all, I believe Weymouth and Franz's beef was that they played those grooves live in the studio and got fucked out of getting any credits (they're virtually all Byrne/Eno).

Come to think of it, maybe that's what you just described...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Matos OTM about the Remain In Light tracks, they torrented briefly on EZtree last year along w/other outtakes. Not all that great. I would, however, like to know if this version of "Life During Wartime" is the one with the incredible Robert Fripp freakout added to it.

sleeve (sleeve), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

great band , greatest hits has 7 brilliant songs but these albums have 1 or less singles i know and only one lp has 2 singles i know.

retrogurl, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

OK, I am now listening to the actual-release Remain in Light reissue instead of the advance, and wow--the bonus stuff sounds MUCH better here, actually some really cool stuff. So I take back what I said earlier. The bonus cuts are still not as good as the album, but they are pretty nice addendums.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

addendum + addendum = addenda!

pedant (plsmith), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

ah, true.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

We all have to wait 'til January for the standalone reissues, right? sigh

Brakhage (brakhage), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

february i think. its a right royal pain as NO-ONE wants the last 3 albums, remastered or otherwise. except 'nothin but flowers'. that's great.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

Do you get the other reissues, Matos?

I always thought the Heads were one of those bands too obsessed with quality-control to let great tracks moulder in a vault...

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

what other reissues? they haven't been issued individually, it's just a box.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

i got the box as a gift, then realized how much i hate dualdisc's and returned it.

Creez (Creez), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

february i think. its a right royal pain as NO-ONE wants the last 3 albums, remastered or otherwise.

not true--I know a few people who like Little Creatures and Naked plenty. (I enjoy the latter and don't care much for the former.) not many True Stories fans out there for sure, though.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

and Little Creatures won the P&J poll! This news always tickles me.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 13 October 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

the most exciting thing to me is the pops staples version of Papa Legba

Kevin Erickson, Thursday, 13 October 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)
