my friend flicka (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

"a history of shoegazing: the lost tracks" - Flicka, could you post the tracklist for this?

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

tracks are here: http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=22887

my friend flicka (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

they're not very "lost" per se but they're all good.

my friend flicka (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

i downloaded "all you zombies" b/c of an alex in nyc thread!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

That's a great mix, though I don't understand how the tracks could be considered "lost." Most are simply album tracks from genre mainstays.

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

er..OTM

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

they're just outtakes from an earlier 2-cd mix the guy made.

Billy Bragg's Back to Basics

john'n'chicago, Tuesday, 26 April 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

Large portions of I.M.'s 1981 box set. And vintage new wave in general.

mike a, Tuesday, 26 April 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

I spun Joy 1967-1990 by Ultra Vivid Scene the other day, and went zooming back to the the summer of 1990, when life was considerably simpler.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Was just listening to Joy 1967-1990 and UVS last week! But strangely, they didn't feel so nostalgic...

rogermexico (rogermexico), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Wowee Zowee--the crazy, hot summer of '95 when I was involved with a woman who was NO GOOD for me, but that didn't stop me from doing all sorts of crazy shit that I look back on with a mixture of fondness and terror. Every time I hear "Black Out" I flash back on this insane trip we took to New Orleans, some of which I even remember.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

My two most recent nostalgia plays were both immensely disappointing after not having listened to them for 6 or 7 years: Jimi Hendrix Live at Woodstock and Wish You Were Here.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Good timing: I'm in the middle of Orb Live '93 right now. It was pretty much the catalyst for my interest in music when I was like 12. It's coinciding with my current tastes and seems to have aged much better than I expected.

sleep (sleep), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Animal Collective's Sung Tongs. I bought it at amoeba when i visiting a girl in LA last june and we listened to it non-stop for, like, two days.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

Emmylou Harris "Blue Kentucky Girl"
Leonard Cohen "Songs of Love and Hate"
Crain "Speed"

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 01:21 (twenty years ago)

Carpenters Gold.

John Hunter, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

Dismemberment Plan, Emergency and I. It's reminding me of conversations I had in late 2001 about how they were gonna be the FUTURE OF INDIE ROCK.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

IM's 1981 set is making me very nostalgic

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

*looks up from relistening to today's reissue of 17 Seconds, realizes question has been answered*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

Nirvana, In Utero. I didn't appreciate just how good it was at the time. All the cool kids I was friends with had this sort of knee-jerk reaction against it when it came out, because Nirvana was wayyyy too popular.

daria g (daria g), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

**looks up from relistening to recently found vinyl copy of Pornography and realizes question has been answered...until neurotic hifi ears demand comparison with recent reissue of same and wallet becomes 5-10mm thinner....**

Slovenly Thinking of Empire

NickB (NickB), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 06:42 (twenty years ago)

Aww, so rad to see all the Slovenly love up in here -- I'll dub you the New Alliance stuff sometime Nick, but it will take some time as I only have it on vinyl and need to rip it...

ELO -- "Out of the Blue"

Michael J McGonigal (mike mcgonigal), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

Really?!? Fuck, that would be amazing!

When I was fresh-off-the-boat, shedding my midwest naivete in NYC.
