A friend of mine (not me!) has written a fictionalised account of the rise and fall of his band in the mid 80's - their attempt to get something going in Australia, their trip to Europe where they had various misadentures, their tour with Laibach, their releases with an Italian label and finally their inelegant collapse etc. It's written as a tragicomedy, a bit Trainspotting, a bit Powder. It's very harsh, acerbic and funny. It's in manuscript, needs editing, but it's still gold in my opinion... where should he send it? All advice gratefully received.
cheers!

Thanks Ian! Damn I can't believe I never asked you guys before this. It's just been sitting on my desk and I've been wondering where to send it in Australia - but of course, Aussie publishers aren't going to take a risk with something so specialist.

I may just be jealous, in conjunction with Ned, as we were planning to write a screenplay/musical with goths as the main characters, and shop it around. (I'm not kidding.) There was even a song recorded for it! By the *cough* band Maybelline Messiah. "And The Dead Will Rise"

(I liked Pankow's cover of Prince's "Girls And Boys".. also their song "Nice Bottom")

The highlight of the novel so far (I've only read 6 chapters, there are about 8 or nine I think) is when they're playing in a Sydney dive and in walks... David Bowie. It's a true account and actually happened. No, he didn't hook them up with his management.

Suddenly I am reminded of reading back issues of Alternative Press featuring Jason Patterson's adventures on tour with Pigface.. You have to find a publisher for this, it sounds like absolute gold.
