Phone system fails as rock fans besiege lines trying to buy concert ticketsTHUNDER BAY, Ont. (CP) — Fans of April Wine and Honeymoon Suite brought down the telephone system at Old Fort William on Tuesday morning. The system crashed after it was besieged by too many callers trying to book tickets for a June concert also featuring Harlequin, Glass Tiger, Chilliwack, Prism and Trooper.Fort manager Sergio Buonocore figured the high volume of calls knocked the system out.But they did sell 6,000 tickets before it crashed.“The number of calls were unbelievable,” Buonocore said of the frenzy. “We didn’t know it would be such a crazy response.”“I had to pull my staff from all other areas to deal with the calls,” he said.A spokesman for TBayTel said the breakdown had nothing to do with the utility as the fort operates its own telephone system.Buonocore said when all the excitement dies down, he will investigate what went wrong.
