Juliette Lewis: but does she ROCK?

I'm going to see Juliette Lewis's rock band with my girlfriend tomorrow, for free. Can I expect a good show?

All I know is that she covered P.J. Harvey in Strange Days and that she sounds like Zach de la Rocha on the Prodigy album.

seedy, trashy, presumably on heroin

I went to her website and played a song and was sooooo disappointed. not that I expected her to be the best musician, but she was a cool actress and her music is "hardly unrecognizable" if you know what I mean. a song heard for the 1st time should be unrecognizable. but a song so unimaginative and derivative and redundant in the face of rock is hardly unrecognizable. this is what I heard in her music. granted, I didn't get any further than one song whose name I, of course, don't recall.

hahahahaha well make it luvox and gatorade and you've got it!

x-post

yeah, its kinda generic "punk rock". but she's a good front person and i guess that night i needed some dumb fun. yknow?

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Dude the EP fucking rocks. The songs are better on CD than they are live, even though she's quite animated. It's a shame Patty Schemel isn't drumming for her anymore.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

is that Rivers Cuomo in the background?

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, and her body is fantastic.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

It's a shame Patty Schemel isn't drumming for her anymore.

That is a shame! Anyway, I'm looking forward to it.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

She's no Karen O.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

her dad's a good character actor, too (i.e. High Plains Drifter)

Gear, those pictures are exactly why i wanted to go. I think I might rock that look this summer.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

She looks like a dope.

Anyway, here's another:

At least she knows how to do the pussy pop.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

well, those pictures DO look entertaining. though her pristine depilatory needs some interest. a 5 o'clock armpit shadow would make her performance better, I think.

cocopuff milkgrit, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Knee pads are cool, though.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

it seems all in the persona-not surprising. i love myself b/c my titties are small, i'm squirmy heroin cool. look at my tight pre-pusbescent body. she's going ot have to bring more to the show that that -she and other chicks have been doing that for years. and before that there were all the men who did it too. she should consult madonna on how to maintain a cool and varied image

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Just wanted to make a point: she's very outspoken about her drug-free status. (Yes, she used to be a coke-head, but she's all about clean living now. She required it of her bandmates, as well.)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

t seems all in the persona-not surprising.

Yeah... plus, we just know her too well. It seems like rockers have to be taken seriously as musicians first before they start acting or else the whole mystique is blown. But, if Juliette starts acting crazy enough, she could convince us all, I suppose.

Lemonade Salesman (Eleventy-Twelve), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

All I know is that she covered P.J. Harvey in Strange Days and that she sounds like Zach de la Rocha on the Prodigy album.

Wait, that was Juliette Lewis singing? I always thought Peej did the vocals for her to mime to on camera. Craziness...

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

she no good

katie hasty (katie, a princess), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

it bothers me she looks so anorexic/androgynous and yet it supposed to be tough and sexy woman. there is something unhealthy about that image, heroin or not

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

which is why i support kelly osbourne!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

shes nasty and bad at music

charleston charge (chaki), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

she's thin sure, but she looks pretty healthy to me. By 'rock star' standards, or whatever. A little belly is attractive usually though, but come on she's Hollywood! I'm not surprised she's so buff.

Kelly Osbourne's got a healthy glow, but she has age on her side.

soemtimes, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Kelly Osbourne is sexier, it is true (I don't know if either of them are actually 'tough' though, images aside).

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

ok, i prefer joan jett

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

What a nonsensical series of posts. Except the one about Joan Jett.

Allyzay do not obtain to make download of yours MP3 (allyzay), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

yuck.. she & her band are fucking TERRIBLE. i had the misfortune of seeing her perform at a CMJ showcase last year.. utterly cringe-inducing vanity project. no charisma. she's an irritating moron, the music is contrived & unremarkable radio rock, band is bunch of hired guns complete w/ obligatory bald/bespectacled bass player & lame choreographed "rock" moves in the fashion of the goo-goo dolls. avoid at all cost.

joey b, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

so they're just okay

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm still looking forward to it! I'll report back on Friday morning.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

xxpost - tx for articulating that so well - and including the word CONTRIVED

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

she's an irritating moron,

But isn't that the part she plays best in "Kalifornia," "Natural Born Killers" and "From Dusk 'Til Dawn"? Juliette Lewis was born to play irritating morons. Her father simply played uncomplicated morons in Clint Eastwood movies like "Any Which Way But Loose," "Thunderbolt & Lightfoot" and "Bronco Billy."

Now I'm going to have get this record. It sounds like something I would greatly enjoy.

George Smith, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Saw her at Bowery Ballroom. An interesting mix of genuine insanity (I've never seen anyone crowd-surf with such abandon. She almost got dropped headfirst to the floor -- twice) and rehearsed "intensity" (a second before she whipped off her top, a stagehand popped up to catch it, and disappeared a second after).

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

The EP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the full-length

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

I gotta say, though, the band's got some chops. They must be mercenaries, but still.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

You say "mercenaries" like it's a bad thing.

The Mad Puffin, Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Puffin - things look a little different when you've been looking to replace a bass player for a month... only to go through a dozen glassy-eyed "i play all genres! rock, funk, jazz!" candidates.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

The other night on cable I saw a movie in which she played a retarded person. Then I saw her on Conan, and she still speaks like she's retarded. Why is this.

PB, Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

Should Juliette Lewis be worried about this guy at all?
