i'd like to hear this. and i wonder how it compares to Mute Beat, the japanese live dub group (drums, bass, trumpet, mixer person) who have the one album (as far as i last checked) which i love out on ROIR, Mute Beat, In Dub from '86.

I think they're touring with Meat Beat Manifesto starting in early June. (or at least they're playing with each in Seattle on June 9th.)

two years pass...

Today I listened to New Heavy and Exploring the Dangers Of. New Heavy seemed more interesting, but I'm not really sure about this Mike Patton track.

^^^best part of the show i saw last night. they killed it, although the metal/dub ratio is now like 70% metal.

Based on the one (most recent) album I've heard by them I'd say they're a sight better at being a metal band than a dub one

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

Can anyone think of an example of a band that play both {insert genre of "heavy" music here} and dub who doesn't excel far more at the other genre?

Though Bad Brains were good at both.

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

I think they're better at dub than metal, but whatevs. I haven't heard the new one.

Jordan, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

Roxy this is probably easiest to answer if we think about bands who are bad at both... otherwise, well

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

These guys. Saw them open on the MBM tour donut mentions upthread and...no. Couple of good songs AT MOST.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, you are so mean!!!!!!!

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

the drummer in this band is the best drummer.

Jordan, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

What if they log in here and see that? xpost

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

Then I can only hope they have improved since then!

(The problem was not that they can't play. The problem was that their songs bored the shit out of me.)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

(I was just kidding.)

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

These days who knows who lurks here! (The other day I looked through an old BJM thread and Anton had posted to complain, but then again it's Anton.)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

oh man, link pls.

Jordan, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

That is a hilarious thread.

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

Have fun

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

It's still hilarious to me that he BUMPS THE THREAD to say "lol, well at least people are talking about me, you assholes!"

Er, who?

I saw them 2 weekends ago. They were gnarly. The bass was so thick and loud you could hear the rafters and walls and shit shaking. Also one of the speaker cabinets almost rattled it's way off the stage.

The new album Another Sound is Dying I think is a much more fluid pastiche of metal/dubbery and also veers into some almost Sigur Ros-y guitar atmospherics.
