time to rejoice if appeals to other courts don't overturn.

I guess I should have added to the topic "in NC"

Well, the one dude on this board who goes to UNC - rejoice!

Actually, I read it again, and it's a "federal magistrate" ruling, so I guess all fifty states can go back to rejoicing again.

I prefer Cadillacman to hulk, as far as nefariousness goes.
I was visiting this nice liberal arts college, and they were talking about their honor code. No stealing, lying, or something else (murder?), and I was pleased because this meant I didn't need a bike lock. But then I figured they included filesharing, and was sad.

again, the riaa has the deep pockets to appeal, possibly to the supremes.

and even if the supremes rule against the riaa, that doesn't mean congress can't go and write a law that would comply with the supremes' ruling and still do nearly the same thing.

also, given the history of the rhenquist court's general hostility towards the rights of students, i'd say, again, no reason for rejoicing.

sorry to be a bummer.

I miss the earlier days of the internet when all internet names really were nefarious. EvilLoRd666, dARKvAMPiRe, NeDRaGgEt, etc.

hstencil, well, you don't have to be optimistic about it, but it's at least a step in the right direction, isn't it? In my opinion, this is the first good news to come out of copyright infringement policy and enforcement in the past 4 years or so, period. I'm pleased, even if it only lasts a couple weeks.

well, that's cool. i appreciate that pov. i just don't think it's a good idea to get hopes up too much.

then again i don't fileshare and i don't work for RIAA (or buy any of their records) so i ain't got a dog in this fight anyways.

Corporations suing kids who pirate music from musicians who hate corporations.
