blip-hop?

as a longtime hiphop fan and relatively new 'idm' (for lack of better term) fan, i've been delighted by this little thing most often called 'blip-hop', where rap's proverbial chocolate gets in glitch's metaphorical peanut butter. so far i'm in possession of a tiny bit (the many 'tried by 12' remixes, the tigerbeat6 'attitude' cd with everyone's favorite kid606/nwa deal on it, funkstorung's wu-tang restructuring, and their own work with rappers), but i'm hopelessly in need of more. i've heard that the horribly boring autechre (is it a cliche that they're boring? because it's true) dabbled in the stuff on something of theirs, also perhaps (the not-boring) squarepusher as well.

any help in finding more of this probably short-lived obsession? remixes of established acts are preferred over lame session mcs brought in to add 'street' flavor. thanks!

I've heard some stuff by Panacea (on Mille Plateaux) in this vein, but I didn't care for it. Probably for the reason you stated: generic- sounding MCs. I seem to be the only person who didn't like the Kid- 606 remix of "Straight Outta Compton." I wanted it to be as crazy sonically but still have the MOVEMENT of the original. I thought all the time stretching defanged the track, though I guess I could see it as some kind of "commentary" on rhythm.

Sorry, but Autechre are not boring - you just haven't listened to them enough (it's a common misconception which i too made before i heard tracks like Arch Carrier, Cichli and Pir). As for Blip-Hop, it's a term that's getting bandied about in the idm world... Dunno what it's supposed to mean. I guess it's another way of trying to try and classify this kind of music same as Drill'n'Bass was a popular term a couple of years back.

Check out Prefuse 73, an artist on Warp Records (loads of sound samples on their site (www.warprecords.com)). Also seek out (or check Napster) for the compilation Rapid Transit from the Chocolate Industries label(home of the original Tried By 12 Remixes). Also, Push Button Objects recently put out a single with Del and Mr. Lif called '360'. Oh, and some of the Ko-Wreck Technique stuff with DJ Craze is pretty nice as well.

Man, look at how he used to write! It's like listening to Kenny Rogers and the First Edition or something.

It helped make his name for the later concept albums.
