The book?

As much as the D.C. scene spawned a bajillion great bands, they do seem to spend an awful lot of time celebrating themselves.

....in a largely humorless fashion.

yeah sorry, i meant this:

it's so poorly written, and it's barely about music at all. it's more about the scene and the politics, which is no surprise I guess since it's written by the frequently insufferable Mark Andersen of Positive Force.

The Dischord boxset was enough for me, thanks.

in the grand scheme of things, the dc scene will be regarded as hardly a blip

Well, in the grand scheme of things, hardcore (regardless of specific turf) is already being reduced to hardly a blip.

(grand scheme of music-related things, that is to say...)

I think the DC scene was way more influential than most local hardcore/punk scenes, if not for the music, for the DIY model.

There would be no Kill Rock Stars, Gravity Records, Load Records, etc. without Dischord.

that banned in d.c. book is way better.

Amon (eman), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Mixed. I was in Positive Force in college, and I still have a lot of respect for Mark and the D.C. scene in general.

But I have never finished the book.

i never really had a problem w/ p.f. as a whole, since they hosted many of the shows i went to. can't say the same for him and his book. an 'e' for effort maybe?

Hmmmm....i'd sooner cite the L.A. scene, but I might be wrong.
