I'm getting paid tomorrow - quick, what is fairly new and I should get on Amazon before work finishes in an hour and I lose my internet access?

Speaks for itself. I won't expect people to know what I like but here's a cross section of what I like. I want something fresh, fairly new and exciting.

Dance: Techno, IDM, Electronica, stuff that is banging (hard techno etc), not house/disco nonsense, and chilled out stuff like "Immer" etc.

Noise/Psych: Stuff like Black Dice and Animal Collective and Boredoms. I can skip on the really harsh stuff though I do have a penchant for Burned Mind by Wolf Eyes. Are Acid Mothers Temple any good? I'd like to get some decent recent Psychedelia

Folk: Actually, I might go get the Wicker Man soundtrack but I'm rather digging the freakfolk stuff in small quantities.

Pop: Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Boo Radleys, Tom Waits, Pavement,

Reggae: Anything that is really really good.

Anything else that's good? Obscuro jazz comps?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

I have Heart of the Congos and all the Pavement. What is Jennifer Gentle like?

I have none of Martian's recommendations - what are they like? I think I've heard some of Dalek on a Kid606 EP.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

go with these two:

Dalek - intense industrial psychedelic hip hip, you know the band Scorn similar to them

Frantic Bleep - avant atmospheric dark metal

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

isolee "wearemonster"

i'll second martin's jesu recommendation--it's justin broadrick's (godflesh) band--slow and heavy and beautiful.

dan (dan), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

wearemonster is not released till June, doglatin wants to order something NOW

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

My Amazon order from yesterday:

Dub Trio - Exploring the Dangers Of
Channels - Open EP
Ragga Ragga Ragga 2004

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

jennifer gentle is very good barrett-esque fuzzy pop-rock. theyre italian, and marco damiani (who used to post more than he does now) is their manager. their newest album valende on sub pop is definitely one of my favorites of 2005.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Frantic Bleep looks amazing Martian - I've been waiting for someone to step up to Arcturus's Sham Mirrors fight for a long time.

Sadly I may need to buy this at a later date because I think I'm going to go for these:

Boredoms - Super Ae
V/A - Ultra Lounge (Bottoms Up)
Gozu (DVD)
Paul Giovanni - Wicker Man soundtrack

You guys have ten minutes to convince me otherwise

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Is Jim Jarmusch's movie "Coffee and Cigarettes" worth £15.99 on DVD? I've seen a few scenes and it's fairly entertaining.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone flipped out and told you how great "Arular" is?

p.j. (Henry), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

no

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

will i like it?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Skip the Jarmusch.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

ok!

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Dude, Jazz-Fusion > Lounge.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Yes I'm sure but it's £6.99 and has Al Caiola's version of Baby Elephant / Java on and so it equals K-classic.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

So be it.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

I will get the jazz fusion one next time though Jordan, prob at the same time I get Frantic Bleep.

Also - is that new Soul Jazz New Thing! thing worth getting? I nearly bought it but the shop had lost the cd.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

I can't speak for it, but did you see this thread?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 28 April 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

Place an order for The Hold Steady's Separation Sunday.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

the new Ariel Pink - Worn Copy - is pretty great

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

I now have a 4Mb connection so I'm checking all these out.
In the meantime I bought:

Frantic Bleep - is really good. Starts off a bit restrained but is kicking ass by the end.

M I A - I adore the first three or four tracks of this although by the fifth track you've kinda got the idea. Need to listen to it more though.

And I have downloaded Herbert, Dalek, Jesu, Ariel Pink, Soul Jazz, Hold Steadys, Channels, isolee, jennifer gentle and others

I'll get back to you on them!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Worn Copy is amazing! It's like listening to a tape your Dad recorded off the radio in 1980 and has been left in his glove compartment for all this time. I'd love to hear an un-fuzzed version of it though.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 May 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Oh don't forget the Fall Peel sessions box.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 5 May 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Herbert is nice - not entirely what I expected but nice. One of the tracks I've known a long time since it was remixed by Plaid about two years ago.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 May 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Mark - the only Fall I have is that there best of that came out last year. What should I get next? I especially like the last few tracks on there like Suzie And The Disco and The Chisellers.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 May 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm digging Isolee a lot too so far!

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 May 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

for fall stuff get hip priest & kamerads (a comp of 81-82 stuff)

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

i think you should check out Piero Umiliani - Musicaelettronica

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

thanks, i will. 4Mb internet connections rock but a lack of HDD space is limiting.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

its the italian 70s lounge/sndtrk guy, but, this is a comp of his more electronic stuff

also, check out Christian Bruhns soundtrack to Timm Thaler (german tv show from 1979), just reissued on diggler records

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

I still wanna hear Acid Mothers. What is their best album?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
One of the tracks on Dalek is amazing. It sounds like a Hiphop remix of something off of Loveless except that it's GREAT!

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

the Young Knives "... Are Dead"

can't stop playing it.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)
