Bob Mould has wrapped work on his first studio album in three years, "Body of Song." As previously reported, Yep Roc will release the former Husker Du/Sugar leader's new 12-track set on July 26. Guests include Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, former Sugar bassist David Barbe, Garland Of Hours principal Amy Domingues and former Bob Mould Band member Matt Hammon.
Aside from the vocal effects on tracks like "(Shine Your) Light Love Hope," the new album largely dispenses with the synth/electronica-flavored sound that dominated Mould's 2002 release, "Modulate." Instead, there are a handful of ballads ("Gauze of Friendship," "High Fidelity"), several Sugar-esque rockers ("Paralyzed," "Underneath Days") and such intriguing sound collages as the six-minute closer "Beating Heart the Prize."
Mould will begin a world tour in the fall with a full band featuring Canty on drums. According to a spokesperson, the trek will touch on all aspects of Mould's back catalog.
Here is the track list for "Body of Song":
"Circles" "(Shine Your) Light Love Hope" "Paralyzed" "I am Vision, I am Sound" "Underneath Days" "Always Tomorrow" "Days of Rain" "Best Thing" "High Fidelity" "Missing You" "Gauze of Friendship" "Beating Heart the Prize

?? I don't understand what you don't understand. We talk bullshit about music to kill time.
Canty's an awesome drummer, I'd be curious to see if he can inject some life into Mould, who hasn't done anything remotely cool since Sugar IMO. I'm more excited about the tour than the album.
However, with The Evens turning into apparently a full on project and all these sideprojects, I'm afraid I'll never get a follow-up to the Argument.

Ah, the cutting dismissal of the cooly detached...
No reason to write this off already, it could be interesting. The song Mould plays on the Burn to Shine DVD is cool.
A new Fugazi disc would have to be way off in the future, I fear, if ever. What's Picciotto up to, anyway?

I'm trying to imagine Sugar with the Brendan Canty KONK bell.

This is the part that I find interesting. Other than the couple of acoustic songs, I don't think he has played many of his Husker Du songs live since the breakup. I saw Mould twice, once with Sugar and the only Husker song he played was closing the solo show set with an acoustic playing "Hardly Getting Over It".
I won't get my hopes up for hearing something off of Zen Arcade, but with Canty on drums, if he decides to blow the crowds mind and try something like that it could perhaps work out well.

Good question. Joe Lally's out in LA playing some with John F. of the Red Hot Chili Peppers...

On a local Mpls board, someone who knows Shellac pretty well said they were hanging out with the band and that Bob Weston basically said that Fugazi has ceased to be a band for quite awhile now, but that they're just not going to make a big deal about it with an announcement or last show or anything.

From Bob's blog http://modulate.blogspot.com/
"It's a guitar record, to be sure, but there's plenty of electronics under the surface.
Artwork is complete. It looks beautiful. Thanks to everyone who helped out on design, photography, layout, all of it. One of the nicest packages I've seen in a long time. You won't miss it, when looking in the bins.
I've been very busy the last few weeks: lots of press, mixing B-sides, and starting on club remixes of a few album tracks (as is Rich, and I'm very excited about that). "

The Gossip are working on new songs for an upcoming KRS full length with their new drummer Hannah Blilie (also of Shoplifting!). It will be recorded in late April with Guy Picciotto.

Seems to be he's trying to find a balance between rewarding the folks who came there to see Bob Himself play Husker stuff, and being true to himself as an artist, wherever his head is at currently. He's too "Fuck You" to pander, I think, but enough "common sense"/"down-to-earth" to understand how he may be perceived.
That being said, word is he is going to expand his selection with this next tour. I just wouldn't expect Crazy Screaming ZEN ARDCADE Side Two Shit because, well, that wouldn't make much sense to me.... But that's just me, afterall.

This past weekend, I was alerted to two websites that are illegally distributing the entirety of my new album. (UPDATE: One site has respectfully removed the content.)
For the record: this project has taken me 3 years (on and off) to complete, with a price tag of around $50,000. Paying musicians, engineers, recording studios, travel costs, mastering, graphic designers, calling in tons of favors. Upgrading equipment, legal and management fees. There was no evil label paying these costs - I write the checks. I get paid on records sold. This is how I do my business. The price tag doesn't account for my own time and effort, for which I typically get paid fairly well. After 26 years on the job, I have earned my keep.
Now, people I do not know are making my work available for free. I know most fans want to do the right thing, and buy the music. I also know that the temptation to download the album for free is there, because it's my new record, and people have heard good things about it, and they want to hear it as soon as possible.
