j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Holy fucking shit. Picture of the year nominee, IMO.

billstevejim, Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

I wish more people would realize that her face sucks.

billstevejim, Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

It's fucking Radiohead not Jandek or anything.

morton thing, Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Context is all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

The best part about it is that it looks like a used copy of Pablo Honey at that!

Britney fucking rules.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

It's fucking Radiohead not Jandek or anything.

It's also Radiohead at their most conventional.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

It's also funny because she's buying a Radiohead CD.

billstevejim, Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

yknow we don't know if that first photo was before or after. it could be she was selling the cd.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

Blount just made me happier.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

elle est enceinte quoi!

i wonder if there's a french version of p. diddy who just comes in on random hip-hop tracks he's produced and says "quoi! quoi!"

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

the cover looks like the name is "aciohead". i wish there were a band named "aciohead."

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

it could be she was selling the cd.

With the sticker on it? Like Imelda and her shoes, hmm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Have to say she was looking a bit rough ever before she was up the spout but you'd still give her one cos then you could tell your mates!!

Cza, Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

speaking of shoes what's with the eskimo boots with summer dress-thing? are those uggs?

Michael J McGonigal (mike mcgonigal), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

Is that a summer-dress or a pillow case wrapped around her

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

Two ways this thread was gonna go by just reading the thread title.

A) Britney buys mainstream crap and we all have a little laugh at it (This could've happened, but I figured it was too meaningless to have its own topic)

B) Britney buys some semi-credible artist who is vaguely known by the mainstream media and is very well known by indie kids (My guess was that she bought a Strokes CD). We would spend the rest of the thread wondering why she bought it and what this meant.

Cunga (Cunga), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

the opening picture on this thread is screaming for photoshopped album covers

True, but nothing will beat the Mary-Kate and Ashley's Hip CD picks meme.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

can you imagine what would happen to ILX if that were a Wolf Eyes CD?

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

can you imagine what would happen to ILX if that were a Wolf Eyes CD?

We'd invent four new online acronyms that describe confusion, to go along previous terms like "WTF" and "WTH".

Cunga (Cunga), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

Where's the picture of Thom Yorke buying Britney's album?

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

I always though Brit had a very nice ass it has to be said. I hope she gets it back after pregnancy.

Cza, Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

I always though Brit had a very nice ass it has to be said. I hope she gets it back after pregnancy.

We're all pulling for her.

Cunga (Cunga), Thursday, 28 April 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Some more than others.

Well of course. Her face still sucks though.

speaking of shoes what's with the eskimo boots with summer dress-thing? are those uggs?

That's one of the hip styles that girls are currently enjoying, even though it looks like shit.

Is that Morrissey? I don't recognize that cover.

daavid (daavid), Friday, 29 April 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Fantastic job BTW! So I guess we all know she's miserable now.

daavid (daavid), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

Two ways this thread was gonna go by just reading the thread title.

A) Britney buys mainstream crap and we all have a little laugh at it (This could've happened, but I figured it was too meaningless to have its own topic)

So its A) then.

daavid (daavid), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:17 (twenty years ago)

It kind of was a combination of the two.

Cunga (Cunga), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'd say it's the "A" of the "B".

jmeister (jmeister), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Right. Britney bought "Pablo Honey" because that's the one with "Creep" on it.

End of.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:20 (twenty years ago)

Britney turns into Jennifer Capriati.

Ludo (Ludo), Friday, 29 April 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

I was procrastinating the other night watching "The Fabulous Life of..." and it was the Britney episode. One of the "star watchers" called Britney's house the "Graceland of Kentwood, LA". Now, this strikes me funny in two ways:

Is the White House the Graceland of DC? Is Gracie Mansion the Graceland of NYC? Is Paisley Park the Graceland of Chanhassen, MN?

AND

If she lives in Graceland, even A Graceland, does that mean she's going to be eating fried pb&banana sandwhiches, buying entire sets of jungle-themed furniture and shooting out televisions with handguns?

I predict that Britney does not age well. Those of you looking for a return of the ass from three-five years ago, it ain't happenin'.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 29 April 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

It's also Radiohead at their most conventional.

It isn't The Bends!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 29 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Whoah, is that Olson Twins thing real?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 29 April 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

...no.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 April 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 29 April 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

i always thought of her as more of a weezer gal.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 29 April 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

(Dan's point's a very good one -- compare/contrast producers: Kolderie and Smith aren't per se out to get one on the radio while Leckie knows and uses *all* the tricks even when he doesn't seem like he is. Consider how he worked on Verve's debut and how even though the band aimed for extreme murk and wash he's included every necessary touch more distinctly than might be imagined.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 April 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

side question: what were the Olsens' hip picks anyway?

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Friday, 29 April 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

I think they were Good news for people who love bad news, and a postal service one.

a banana (alanbanana), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

"Is that Morrissey? I don't recognize that cover." - I was kind of hoping someone would guess, but it is the "Pregnant for the Last Time" single, naturally.

Always figured Mary-Kate to be more of an Arvo Part kind of woman.

erklie, Friday, 29 April 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

"woman"

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 29 April 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

A friend of Britney's told me that she picked up Pablo Honey because "Like Spinning Plates" on Amnesiac is her favourite song E-VAH, and she thought that their first album was some Tangerine Dream meets "Soothing Sounds For Baby" style easy-listening drone-loop biznizz (owing to the cover). And now that she's listened to it she's pretty pissed and was all like "Screw this sub-Nickelback shit."

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 29 April 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

i don't get this thread

ARTIST PICKS:
Mary Kate:
Jean Michel Basquiat. He was an icon of the late 1980s whose work still inspires.

Ashley:
Andy Warhol. An American legend who was one of a kind.
