Silver Jews ringleader David Berman knows his fans are counting on him to wake up and finish his new record, but he's feeling too lazy today. "Maybe later," says Berman, rolling over to his side. "Must sleep now."

Ferris Bueller's bedroom wall did have Killing Joke, the Damned, Brian Ferry, and Cabaret Voltaire posters.

Let's spend 100 posts dissecting this piece of trivia and what it means in the grand scheme of things.

Issued as a 7-inch single in April 1990, "Slack Motherfucker" rapidly became one of the band's best-known songs. It has been credited with popularizing the "slacker" stereotype, and as a blueprint for future indie rock music.

RYM recently re-categorized 'Lo-fi' as 'Slacker' rock & I hate it, & it gets me mad. There's a lot of hard working DYI artists thrown in under the category, & as much I dig Subgenius mythology, I take it as a derogatory term when used about musicians.

calstars, Saturday, 20 February 2021 23:05 (five years ago)

as a slacker I also find it offensive since no true slacker could manage to put these kinds of projects together and stick with them

Slacker life goals:
- write and mail a letter

- reach out to that guy

Tbf, "Slack Motherfucker" is an explicitly anti-slacker song.

“Slack Motherfucker” is ‘if you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean’ with a distortion pedal.

Spin described it as being about the "lazy oaf with whom Mac McCaughan shared the night shift at Kinko's" and quoted him that it was about the "freak [ he ] work[ ed ] with at Kinko's" on p 54 here: https://books.google.ca/books?id=yqmlNOuYQdEC&printsec=frontcover&hl=fr&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false
