Great song. Is this actually Jay-Z? If not, this guy's voice is ridiculously similar.

Crap, the name is spelled with 2 P's, not 3. Hot 97's website f'd up.

billsteveji, Friday, 29 April 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

And it's "Sharades!!" Not "Charades!!" Wow.

Interesting.. Sometimes I feel like the only one who has heard this song. I suppose the lack of responces here confirms this.

is this the same guy who did that track "alphabetical slaughter" years ago? that was great, then he seemed to disappear...

i'm glad people are talking about him here. i have the mixtape with kay slay at home and it's pretty impressive. i'm not sure which track you're talking about though.

It samples Kenny Loggins.

Still nothing yet? I actually haven't heard this song on the radio since this thread started. Perhaps the listener responce was minimal.

Papoose "Sharades"

[Papoose]
East Coast, pop a bottle wit y'all
West Coast, pop a bottle wit y'all
To all you dead-beat dads, you need to find you a job
Your child is the only person that can find you tomorrow

[CHORUS]
I can do what I wanna do, why can't I?
Let a thug get rich, how can I?
I'm watchin' all you rappers, don't you realize?
Let's play a game of Sharades, who am I?

[Kenny Loggins]
There's been times in my life
I've been wonderin' why
Still, somehow, I believe we all will survive

[Papoose]
Gimme the keys to Shyne Po's handcuffs
Gimme the keys to Lil' Kim's handcuffs
Gimme the keys to C-Murder's handcuffs
So I can tighten them and watch the cell slam shut
Gangsta rapper, it's time to man up
'Fore I tighten ya handcuffs
Cuz they all make songs about killin' each other
When I bring em in for questionin', they all squeal on each other
You stick a needle deep in your skin and carve it with ink
You call it tattoo, I call it the mark of the beast
We identify criminals who rob in the streets
By scars and tattoos, don't you bother to think?
They blame me for Biggie's murder but the case died out
So that's for me to know and for you to find out
I got the industry locked and key
Who am I? I'm the Hip-Hop Police...

[CHORUS]

[Papoose]
Gimme the keys to Beanie Sigel's handcuffs
Gimme the keys to Irv Gotti's handcuffs
Gimme the keys to Snoop Dogg's handcuffs
He got acquitted, he lucked up
They makin' more money than me, damn rap stars
Pull Jigga over, maybe there's a gun in his car
Took the sexy young lady with the push up bra
Got her to frame Mystikal, he ain't rape that broad
Made an example outta Kim, Chi Ali and Shyne
Tony Yayo on parole, he owe me some time
Take the gangsta outta rap, that's set to decieve you
What I'm tryna do is make Hip-Hop illegal
They blame me for Pac's murder but the case died out
So that's for me to know and for you to find out
I got the industry on lock and key
Who am I? I'm the Hip-Hop Police...

[CHORUS]

[Papoose]
Can you recognize a cop when his clothes is plain?
You gotta identify him, it's like a game of Sharades
Take a loan from a bank, I'm borrowin' money
I take a loan from my homies, I'm launderin' money
Called the narcotic cops when I sold my dimes
Called the gun boys on me when I totted by 9
Now I hold a microphone, is you outta ya mind?
Hip-Hop Police, is Hip-Hop a crime?
Freedom of speech, y'all think so evil
Rather give freedom to my speech than give freedom to my people
Instead of watchin' us, y'all shoulda been watchin' Ground Zero
Schwarzenegger killin' in movies but he a hero
To all of the rappers, we gotta stay incognito
To do it our way like Carlito
Cuz they wanna stink in they way
If everybody lived they life the same way, we'd all meet our maker the same day...

three months pass...
It's been a few months now. Am I really the only ILM user who has heard this track? It's times like this I wish I had an mp3 blog.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 14 August 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

why not YSI the track then everyone can listen and comment

ambrose (ambrose), Sunday, 14 August 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

I can't find an mp3 anywhere except for this one with Funk Flex interupting the track 3 or 4 times.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 14 August 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I heard this probably around the same time you did, bill, but had no idea who this was. And I don't know what to think, really. (That sample is Kenny Loggins?!?!?!)

This song is SO sick I'm still in love with it, being from England we get everything late. Unless you look for something you get but boy Papoose is something else. Out here we got some good artist too. Papoose is under rated
