The only produce thats better than him is Dr. Dre.
This makes it sound like they're cuts of meat.

I've just had an idea for a really shit animated sitcom in which Timbaland and Dr Dre run competing stalls in Bourough Market. In series 2 Pharell would turn up and open one as well.
― chap, Friday, 8 February 2008 17:08 (eighteen years ago)
Timbaland has more negative space in his songs than anyone else. Almost all his songs are really really slow (well, really slow OR really fast, depending on whether you think it's in cut time or 4/4) so the sparse drum programming has all this "room" around it. The slow tempo he uses allows for double-time drum fills, like in "One in a Million," that would feel out of place at a normal hip hop tempo.

Remember when I was about 16 and heard "Beep Me 911" and "Pony". Blew me away, I was like: "This is the fyoo-chooore!" Suppose it kinda was, although his productions have got a little bit more minimal since around 2001. Still ace though.
― Bodrick III, Friday, 8 February 2008 17:49 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, Beep Me 911 totally slapped me round the face, I was mesmerised by it first time I heard it. And I pretty much despised rnb at that point.

Timbaland 99-01 >> Timbaland 96-98 >> Danja 06-08 >> Timbaland/Danja 05-08 >> Timbaland 02-04

I wasn't really into RnB 'til then, but I liked the odd tune. I think it had a great run in terms of production and arrangement 97-03. Obvs good stuff before and after, but those are the primo years for me.

Pretty much. His peak was bookended by Da Real World (the best album he's ever worked on) and Miss E.

Think if you where coming to RnB as somebody into dance/electronic music, then late 90s Timba was a good introduction.

he un-peaked when he opened his fat mouth to talk a lot more on his beats.
― mr x, Monday, 19 May 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, he's cool doing disembodied amusingly deadpan background commentaries on his tracks, but as an actual rapper/singer whatever, forget it.
