When I was in 1st grade, we had to write a letter to our mothers for mothers day stating why we love them. Mine says "I don't know y you buy me them records, but I like them."
She has that framed.
Shae married a man who hipped me to Kraftwerk when I was 10, granted he's a classic rock fan for the most part.
She now likes Limp Bizkit.
I'm not sure how this helps your mom, but wishiful thinking...

It's Mother's Day (in America anyway), so why not revive this thread?
My mom:
- bought us blank tapes the day the classic rock station played 24 hours of Rolling Stones- took me and my best friend to see Neil Young & Crazy Horse, on the tour where Sonic Youth and Social Distortion opened- loved New Order's Substance and Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense- liked Iggy Pop's voice, but hated Brian Johnson's voice, so I wasn't allowed to play AC/DC in the house but could get away with Metallic K.O.- told me "jazz is music for people who think they're smart"

- drove down to the Masonic temple box office in Detroit to wait in line with the freaks to get me Frank Zappa tickets, because the ticket outlet at the local department store was on the fritz. When she finally got to the window they assumed she was there for Nutcracker tickets.

- took my sister and me to the Uptown Throwdown hip-hop show, when I was in high school and my sister was in middle school.
