WTF?!?!

oh no the teen gets bullied and has a galaxy in her chest.

also, anyone else notice how the lead singer's nose looks like gerard depardieu penis nose style?

not sure why there are so many close ups of it, but hey its' stars! they are wild like that!

i like it! yay!

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 30 April 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

oooh yeah, that was pretty bad. also the keyboardist put on a lot of weight... and then he's making out with the girl in one shot near the end. bah

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

I dig it, but then again I'm obsessed with this band.

On another note. Does this sort of bullying happen in schools. Maybe it's because I went to a fairly small private school where pretty much everyone was cool to each other. There are always so many videos that depict kids being excessively bullied. I've never seen any such bullying myself. I also thought it weird that she was pretty much the only attractive girl in the party, but was treated like a freak. This surely is not the case in most schools i know of,private or public.

i just get real sick of the whole highschool bullying subject matter of so many videos and movies. it is beyond overdone

Benjamin H (BillMartini), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

the performance sections of the vid are beautifully shot.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Which only emphasizes how poorly shot the other sections of the video are.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

The other sections aren't so much "poorly shot" as terribly acted and with bad, bad CG.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

i love how when the girl's breasts start shooting phasars and photons and nebulas, all the other girls are just standing there twirling hair.

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

I like it. I especially love the black tape over the heart. The song of course is perfect.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 April 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I'm just a geeser, but the video seems like nothing more than a baldfaced, artless attempt at capturing the "angsty teen reject" demographic. "Jeremy," the equivalent from my youth, may have in fact been the same thing, but I at least get the feeling that Vedder, for better or (probably) for worse, was sincere about it.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 30 April 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking after watching it that the shots of the band were beautifully done too...and yeah, not so sure about the other section. I mean, the galaxy in her chest turned into a mirrorball, dammit...it's like one of U2's worst lyrical metaphors come to life.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 30 April 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

super xpost. if you want to experience what hell is, visit a public school. bullying is more than an issue, more like a crisis. all the major school shootings have occurred over bullying/shunning issues. pretty sad.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 30 April 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

what band is this, anyway?

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 30 April 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

Stars.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Saturday, 30 April 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

slot me in with the people who think the band shots are beautiful and the party scenes are bland. i think he would've been wiser to shoot the latter in deep reds or greens or something.

anyway, this broken social scene video by the same director is roughly 1037% more ridiculous. it is up there with my least favorite videos of all time. that said, i generally like this dude's work.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Saturday, 30 April 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

what band is this, anyway?

sigh.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 30 April 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

bad video. bad song. wholly generic. hey cutty !

breezy, Sunday, 1 May 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

mark p you are right. that broken social scene video is horrendous. why people seem to use this director is beyond me.

breezy, Sunday, 1 May 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

breezy, you should pay to go to see stars and then post about it here!

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 1 May 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

i was thinking about doing that, instead I'll just directly email you about it!

breezy, Sunday, 1 May 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

yay!

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 1 May 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

i'm glad we are back together. drop me an email. we should really get lunch. xo

breezy, Sunday, 1 May 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

This video was designed to appeal to pretentious middle schoolers.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 1 May 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

M83 did it better this year.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 1 May 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

anyway, this broken social scene video by the same director is roughly 1037% more ridiculous.

Oh my barf! I'm only half-way through it!

giboyeux (skowly), Sunday, 1 May 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

Holy bad. That video is exactly why bullying exists.

"Hypocrisy is a drag."
