burning spear - reissue question

so i'm considering picking up the new soul jazz burning spear compilation. except i need some relevant information:

some of the song titles from "presenting..." have changed:

"door peep shall not enter" ---> "door peeper"
"ethiopians live it out" ---> "ethiopians"
"creation" ---> "creation rebel"

are these versions?

ok, secondly, are the tracks remastered? you always hear about how shitty the sound is on "presenting..." and "rockers time" but frankly the sound on those always sounded fine to me. anyway who DOESN'T prefer their roots murky and hissy?

finally are the "rare" tracks available anywhere else: "zion higher", "bad to worse", "new civilization", "this population". are they any good?

haha actually it would be fairer to say i'm heavily leaning towards NOT picking it up ... but i slept on a bunch of pressure sounds and blood&fire things back in the day out of snobbery and i'm worried about doing same again ...

also what's the difference between this set and the "creation rebel" set on heartbeat??

vahid, I don't know what I'm talking about, but hasn't he been putting out reissues on his own label? Maybe you'd rather just go for them. Except I don't know if they cover the years in question. (I would like to get some Burning Spear CDs myself--all I have is a tape I probably can't listen to.)

see, that would be best.

i'm sick of sending my money to broadwick st. (although i am under the impression that soul jazz are particularly conscientious about licensing etc ... though WTF was up with that "best of black jazz records" controversy?)

There's a review of the Heartbeat reissue at the Reggae Vibes site, and they claim that the sound is slightly better than the Soul Jazz one (the review discusses both). The problem they have with the Heartbeat reissue is that the CD clocks in at 56 minutes, and a few songs from his Studio One years are missing. However, I assume a similar complaint could be made of the Soul Jazz version, which only has 18 songs (heartbeat's has 20).
I've been meaning to get one of these comps, and figure I'll go with the Heartbeat reissue.

That Reggae Vibes link doesn't take you to the album review. Click on Albums on the left side, and then scroll down to Burning Spear - Creation Rebel.

No you didn't.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 06:27 (seventeen years ago)

haha. maybe not

I have the Soul Jazz one and it's great so I didn't feel the need to get the Heartbeat which looks pretty redundant.

four months pass...

Does it have the single/dj versions? 6 mins long, extended, awesome, He Prayed w Dennis Alcapone doing Joe Frazier after, Rocking Time w Prince Jazzbo doing Pepper Rock. It's side 4 and it's kinda my fav, BS's vocals sound esp lovely over the sparer backing
