I can't believe I ever thought she was cool.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 1 May 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't she Stiv Bators' girlfriend at one point?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 1 May 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

Was she? I'd never heard that before.

Until this moment, I hadn't even thought of Bill Bellamy's existence for at least a year (probably more).

oh, I didn't mean to imply that Bill Bellamy was one of my favorite MTV VJs though.

Not a bad role model at all!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

adam curry was always a bit *wrong* but that was/is his appeal.

what happened to that kennedy (?) dj. y'know, the cute one with the curly hair and glasses?

nathalie in a bar under the sea (stevie nixed), Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm ashamed to admit I recently saw Kennedy on the Game Show Network. Hosting a game show, obviously.

Since when did Martha Quinn begin to resemble an old catcher's mitt?

And whatever happened to that amiable red-haired guy who was one of the first VJs? I liked him...

PB, Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

kennedy sometimes appears on those vh1 "i heart the..." shows.

reno sweeney (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

I am *really* confused at this hate for Martha Quinn's appearance. First off, I'd like to see how well all you jokers will look when you hit your late forties and second, she looks just fine regardless! Has a great smile, like the long hair and seems, if anything, relaxed and content. I've seen people look much more aged at a younger age to be frank.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

i think she looks a bit gangly but i bring no hatorade.

reno sweeney (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Fret not, Reno, you were not a target of my rant.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 May 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

She looked great at the massive garage-fest on Randall's Island last summer, and she lived with Stiv Bators for years.

Curry threw himself into cyberspace around the same time as Al Gore. Around the time that I got my first AOL account, Curry was involved in a legal battle with Viacom over the MTV.com domain, which he'd been using for a couple years already. Shoulda been a landmark case, but I think he took some money and that was the end of it.

But Curry and Quinn are the survivors!

C'mon: Kennedy, JJ Jackson, Zappa's kids, Kendall, various bald guys during the 1990s... There's gotta be somebody whose life story would blueprint well for a screenplay for THE JERK II.

Jesus, Martha looks like death slighty warmed over on one side.

And the Fuzztones? Cripes they've always stunk.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 May 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I agree with Ned. She looks fine.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 1 May 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

You necrophiles!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 May 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm with Ned, too. She's got a hot middle-aged rock chick thing goin' on. Of course, me & Toby, we like 'em rough.

brianiac (briania), Sunday, 1 May 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

i'm w/ ned here ... martha quinn doesn't look bad at all!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 May 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't so much commenting on Martha's appearance in my opening post as I was her taste in husbands.

Martha Quinn was in Problem Child 2. That movie is a masterpiece, so obviously this is a good thing.

Dave Holmes is gay now, which is also a good thing.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 1 May 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

didn't idalis play a stripper in the sopranos a while back? altho i'm not sure if exploiting yourself to get on one of the better tv shows running counts as a BAD choice...

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

I 'm in the pro-Martha camp. She looks just fine! But I'm a Martha booster, always have been. She used to be the desk clerk at NYU's Weinstein dormitory when I lived there and she was really sweet.

Lisa "E" Edelstein from Awake on the Wild Side is constantly on network TV, bouncing from show to show. She's currently on House. I like her. i wonder what ever happened to her co-host?

Moosie Grosvenor (Arthur), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

agreed. unwatchably bad. what was the point of it?

i've heard about the martha/nyu connection! that's kinda funny.

**I'd like to see how well all you jokers will look when you hit your late forties**

(rushes to mirror, returns somewhat relieved)

My initial response was similiar to Alex but upon reflection I suppose Ned is right, especially considering...I mean hanging out w/Stiv Bators can't be good for the complexion.

But has ANY MTV vee-jay enjoyed something that resembles success (in the media sense) after MTV? I always enjoyed laughing at/with these folks when they were on the air but there's something depressing about the way MTV seems to burn through & discard these "on-air personalities." I won't lose sleep over this, but still...

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 2 May 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

Anyone remember....fuck....Carolyn Hellman? I think that was her name. Think late 80's. Lots of hair. Sort've a preppy girl. Looking for a pic now.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 2 May 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

She co-anchored the news w/Kurt Loder when he first started IIRC.

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 2 May 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

Alex, that's who I've been trying to think of for a couple of days now. And honestly, I can't remember whether that's her name or not.

I don't think the problem is the aging process per se- it's more the format switch from cute-as-a-button New Wave good girl with an edge to run-of-the-mill skinny scary hippy chick that is disconcerting.

Ken L (Ken L), Monday, 2 May 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Where is Tabitha Soren in the Beastie Boys video? There are two girls with reddish hair, and I've never been able to tell which one is her.

Kennedy has always been annoying. Wasn't she famously a virgin at, like, age 25?

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Monday, 2 May 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Tabitha Soren would like us to just get over it. She's not an MTV babe, and at 36 she's not, as headline writers once declared, "the Gen-X Barbara Walters." She's a Berkeley wife and mother of two daughters, a serious photographer now. She's studied at Stanford, taught at UC Berkeley, and two exhibits of her photos are now on display in the Bay Area.

"I had 10 years of fabulousness -- that's more than anyone deserves," she says with a smile.

More here...

ianinportland (ianinportland), Monday, 2 May 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Tabitha has big feathered hair in the video and it only seen in the wide angle pie-throwing shot at the end. She's not the short-haired girl Adrock kisses.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 2 May 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Alex. Another mystery solved.

Kennedy has always been annoying. Wasn't she famously a virgin at, like, age 25?

I for one find that fact EXTREMELY attractive. In the day she was extremely physically attractive too. That picture of her on the donkey is hot. And I like that she's a libertarian, even if she doesn't get that Republicans are totally NOT libertarian. She's not a bible thumper by any means. And god is she hot. And I like how on Vh1 they list her as a "television personality" when she's on TV... being a television personality. So she's on TV because she's on TV...

Anywho, I think I love her.

Adam Curry, a former MTV host who developed software that lets people automatically receive these programs on Apple's iPod and other players, will produce and be host of a four-hour program every weekday starting May 13 on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Mr. Curry will help choose material for "Adam Curry's PodShow" from some of the thousands of amateur shows produced in basements, living rooms and dormitories. Sirius subscribers, who pay $12.95 a month for the service, can listen to the show on channel 148, "Talk Central."
